Mary Ann Moser Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 10 to Feb. 19, 2023.
Mary Ann Moser Springfield - Mary Ann Moser, much beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully at her home on February 7, surrounded by family. She was 89.

Mary Ann was born on June 11, 1933, in Creighton, Nebraska, to John and Margaret (Vogt) Wilmes. She was the fourth of five children. She fell in love at a young age and married Paul Moser in Creighton on October 15, 1951. They spent many years farming, but in 1965 they moved to Springfield, Oregon, to pursue other employment and "a new life," and it is there that they raised their family.

Mary Ann's great passion was her family. To know her was to understand that nothing mattered more to her. She and Paul had seven children: Paula (Jim), Geralyn (Sam), Marian, Beverly (Carol), Daryl (Ginger), Alan (Renee), and Greg (Robin). Mary Ann had nine grandchildren: Angela Miller (Mark), Sara Moore (Brian), Amanda Parker (Joe), Maxwell Moser, Lucas Moser (Allie), Alexa Moser (Nick), Joshua Moser, Evan Nelson, and Zachary Moser. She had six great-grandchildren: Makayla, Peyton, Raegan, Colton, Marcus, and Seth. Through the years, Mary Ann and Paul spent a great deal of time with their kids and families, enjoying the big and small events of life, and traveling together.

When her kids were older, Mary Ann ventured out to take on numerous income-generating "odd jobs," but her most significant work was her 20 years as a library assistant at Thurston High School. There she enjoyed interacting and providing counsel to the students, and lending her expertise to the staff. She was a physically active woman, and loved square dancing with Paul. She was very involved with St. Alice Catholic Church - singing in the choir, serving in the Altar Society, and substitute teaching in the elementary school. Mary Ann was an avid gardener, and in her younger years spent many hours canning the fruits of her and Paul's bountiful harvest, and sharing her wise and practical homemaker knowledge with her close friend two doors down. She and Paul developed a tight knit group of friends who enjoyed taking trips and celebrating special occasions with one another.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Paul, in 2010, and her son-in-law Jim, in 2022.

The family would like to thank Visiting Angels and Peach Health Hospice for their attentive kind care of Mary Ann. Her service is planned for Saturday, March 4, at 11:00 am, at the St. Thomas More Newman Center on the U of O campus. There will be light refreshments and socialization following the service.

In place of gifts, donations may be made to St. Thomas More Newman Center for student assistance, in honor of Mary Ann.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mary Ann was a very sweet, nice person. I had the pleasure of adjusting her glasses for many years. She was always kind and a person who adored her family.

I am so sorry to hear Mary Ann passed away. Even though I haven´t seen her in many years I have fond memories of her. She was always pleasant and had a smile on her face. She was a special Aunt! I extend my sympathy to all her family! May she rest in peace!

My heartfelt sympathy to Mary Ann's family. In Nebraska we are thinking of her - and you- at this time. I always valued the "greatest generation", and am sad at the loss. Best to you.
