Mary Ann Rosbottom Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2020.
April 15, 1935 - Mar. 18, 2020 Mary Ann (McCool) Rosbottom of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, has left us to be with our Lord. She died Wednesday, March 18th at age 84. Born April 15, 1935 in San Diego, she and her parents William and Clara McCool moved to San Pedro where Mary Ann grew up to become an active member of the community. Her family life was her greatest joy and, with her husband Leo Rosbottom (d. 2016), they contributed to the continual growth and prosperity of communities far and wide. Mary Ann was a graduate of St. Anthony's High School (Long Beach) and studied at Los Angeles Harbor College. She worked for Howard Hartry Customhouse Brokerage and Marine Wholesale for nearly 50 years, before retiring in 2000. Truly committed to others' well-being, Mary Ann supported numerous charitable organizations and served in various capacities with Little Sisters of the Poor in San Pedro, and The Mary and Joseph Retreat Center in Palos Verdes. She also instructed CCD classes through Holy Trinity Church, served as an educator for auxiliary programs at Holy Trinity School, and was a substitute art teacher. Mary Ann sang in the Holy Trinity Choir for many years, was an avid baker, and adored her LA Lakers. Mary Ann's husband of 54 years, Leo Joseph Rosbottom, and her siblings Paul McCool and William McCool preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Bern Rosbottom of Oakland, William (spouse Natalie) Rosbottom of Atlanta, and Annie Caserma of San Pedro. She's also survived by her beloved grandchildren Madicyn Caserma, John Joseph Caserma, Reid Rosbottom, Tait Rosbottom, and great-granddaughter Marilyn Rose Caserma-Padilla. In light of the current COVID-19 restrictions, a Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date. A private burial was held at All Souls Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's (www.stjude.org). Special Thanks to all who have prayed for Mary Ann and her family. Pie Iesu Domine, dona eis requiem sempiternam.

Dear Family, I am so sadden to hear that your mom passed away, but I'm sure she was glad to be going to heaven to see Leo. I loved your mother and was always greeted with a hug and kiss from her, which I gladly accepted. She made everyone feel so important. I worked with her at Holy Trinity Mothers Club and again at Little Sisters of the Poor. She had so much energy and kindness to all the volunteers. I know I will miss seeing her at mass. I'm sure she will be in your hearts with wonderful memories. God bless her and all of your family. Mickey and Mike Zimmer

Dear Rosbottom Family,

I was utterly shocked to see the obituary of your mother, Mary Ann Rosbottom. I went to school with Mary Ann, which I think they call Annie. My sister, Lisa, was in her class. The last I saw your mother was at an LSP (Little Sisters of the Poor) event about six months ago. She had fallen.

When I would see her and your dad at HT, I would tell her how she looked the same. Time was good to her. I remember Mrs. Rosbottom always being at the school. She volunteered and helped out so much. She loved your father. She loved God, and I always saw her and your father at mass.

Please accept my deepest condolences for the passing of your beloved mother. You are truly blessed that God gave you such a wonderful person.

Eternal Rest grant unto, Mary Ann, oh Lord, and may the perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and all the souls of the Rosbottom family and faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in Peace.

In the Sweet Hearts of Jesus, Mary & Joseph...

Only met Mary Ann and Leo one time but was most impressed by their spirit of hospitality, joy and closeness to their family. Getting to know Billy was proof that the tree from which he fell was near and dear indeed. May you rest in peace!!!

She was a kind and wonderful woman and will be greatly missed. Much love to the entire family.

Perhaps the memories we'll carry are those that we found out after her passing; things she didn't tell us. Like receiving certifications in business law, or having been accepted to UCLA, though her family didn't have the money to send her. But she never missed an opportunity to tell us . . . and show us she loved us. Godspeed Mom.
