Mary Alice Bier, 95, of Janesville, Wis., died Monday, March 23, 2015, at Agrace Center for Hospice & Palliative Care.

She was born in Harmony Township, Rock County, Wisconsin, on May 31, 1919, the daughter of Emil and Elizabeth (Hayes) Langer, and spent most of her life in Janesville. She had worked as a secretary in the Janesville office of Federal Farm Loans for eight years before her marriage, and later the bookkeeper at St. Mary's Church. Mary Alice married Vincent Bier on Nov. 21, 1946, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Janesville. Vincent died on April 18, 1994. After her marriage, she devoted her life to her family and home and was always ready to help when needed.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Women's Club. Mary Alice was a great friend and took great pride in her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Thomas (Janice) Bier of Janesville, Wis., and their children, Angie (Jimmy) Kim, Louise (Ho Ying Fan), Katie, Patrick and Peter (Mary); son, James (Rita Till) Bier of Oronoco, and their children, Timothy, Amy and Kelly; daughter, Dr. Carol (Kurt) Laning of Barrington, Ill., and their children, Emily, Benjamin and Nicholas; three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Evelyn and Liesl; sister-in-law, Eleanor Bier; as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Florence and Margaret; brother, Frank; and beloved daughter, Laurie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Janesville, Wis., with Rev. Stephen J. Umhoefer officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School or Agrace Hospice Care Inc.
