MARY ELLEN BOWIE beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend passed away on March 29, 2007 at the age of 92. She was born on September 13, 1914 in Houston, TX to Robert and Grace Pemberton. Mary was a graduate of San Jacinto High School, class of 1932. She then attended Rice Institute and the University of Texas, graduating in 1936. She received her Master's degree from the University of Houston in 1951. Mary went on to spend many years teaching 4th grade while raising her 3 children, alone, due to the death of her beloved husband Neil Hugh Bowie in 1951. She was a dedicated teacher who educated and influenced the lives of hundreds of children at Sutton, Shearn and Parker Elementary Schools from 1948 to 1976. Mary is survived by her loving children, Sheila Woolley Geanangel and husband Russell, Neil Bowie and wife Kim and Patricia Anne Allen. She is also survived by her dear sister, Ada Pemberton Webster; her loving grandchildren, Elizabeth Zeigler, Ann Melendez and husband Ed, Neil Bowie and wife Susie, Brooke Kizer and husband Roland and William "Bill" Bowie; as well as her adored great-grandchildren, Michael Manos, MacLean and Pearce Bowie, Katie and Cyrus Kizer. Mary was preceded in death by her grandson James "Jim" Bowie whom she dearly loved and deeply missed. "Mama Bee", as she was known to her grandchildren, was well loved and will be sorely missed. The family wishes to thank Mary's caregivers at Treemont who made her last years comfortable. A celebration of Mary's life will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Waltrip Funeral Directors. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm with the service to follow at 2:00pm In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Star of Hope Mission or The Salvation Army.
