Mary Brewster Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 15, 2023.
BREWSTER, Mary Beth, age 86 of Berkley and previously of Ferndale, passed away peacefully at Regency at Fremont in the kind and loving hands of the Regency staff and Hospice staff (Corewell) on November 17, 2023.

Mary Beth was born January 6, 1937, as Mary Emma, to the late Charles H. Brewster and Thelma A. (Codling) Brewster, in Dayton, OH. Mary Beth was preceded in death by her loving brother Charles (Joan surviving) Brewster and brother Robert (Doreen surviving) Brewster. She is survived by her nephew, Robert Brewster; niece, Jennifer Sortwell; niece, Shelly Anderson; step-niece, Nancy Schmidt; step-niece, Kathleen Roediger; and step- nephew, Fred Mabry. Mary Beth leaves behind 47 nieces, step-nieces, nephews, and step-nephews (to include great).

Mary Beth graduated from Lincoln High School in Ferndale, MI, in 1957. She served proudly in the U.S. Navy for five years, beginning in 1962 and being Honorably Discharged in 1967. Following her military service she held various jobs including nurse aid, dental assistant, secretary, factory worker, with her last position being that of a caregiver, which she dearly loved.

Mary Beth served as an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions within the church. She was dedicated to her faith and especially enjoyed her time serving in the library. She was a kind and thoughtful soul who liked to bring a smile to others. She was always looking to serve where needed, even taking in two homeless people. She loved to sew and many expecting mothers, and the like, were blessed, including acquaintances, with her homemade baby blankets and diaper bags. She loved to sing, enjoyed music (especially Irish tunes), nature, animals, and travel. She took a solo trip to Ireland following her military stay. She donated many resources to the V.A. Hospital and many other charities. She enjoyed reading and learning (from belly dancing classes to reflexology certification), and her greatest passion was writing poetry. With her mighty faith in her Heavenly Father, she became a cancer survivor.

The family will receive visitors Saturday, January 6 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of memorial service at 12:00 p.m.

Wessels & Wilk Funeral Home, 23690 Woodward Ave, Pleasant Ridge, MI 48069 at the corner of Woodward Heights (9 1/2 Mile)
