Mary and Dericksen were the absolute best neighbors in the whole world. I lived next door to them for several years on Chicago Ave. It was not unusual to see Dericksen at my front door shortly after I got home from work. He would flourish a bottle of wine and two glasses and tell me that Mary sent him over. She says, "you just have to try this wine."
I went through a rough patch while we were neighbors and Mary was my rock. Always sensible with her advice and comforting with her big heart. I have always thought of her as my California mom. When my daughter came along she was so helpful to this new mother who didn't have a clue.
My condolences to the family and especially to Dericksen.
