Mary Burch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 5 to Dec. 6, 2011.

GREENSBORO — Mary Frances Burch passed peacefully away Sunday, December 4,2011 at her home. She was born on November 13, 1925 to the late Joseph and Sally Jones in Milton, North Carolina. Mary moved to Greensboro North Carolina in 1941, and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1942. Mary was employed by Jefferson Pilot Insurance Company for 40 years. She later worked for Sears Retail.

Mary was a faithful member of The Congregational United Church of Christ for 52 years where she was made a Life Deacon. She served on the Steering Committee for The Annual Crop Walk for Hunger. She was a role model for others as she completed the 10 mile walk many years. She was a volunteer for Mobile Meals where she delivered meals from 1988 to 2005. Mary was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of The Oriental Shrine Band, a former member of The Red Hat Club, and a former member of Bethany of The First Presbyterian Church.

Mary loved to cook and frequently provided meals to sick and bereaved families. She loved people and was a true servant of Christ. Mary loved reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, playing bridge, and all celebrations and holidays. She loved the beach and was the matriarch of 31 years of beach trips to Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.

Mary was dearly loved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Walter "Sticky" Burch; son, Steven "Chip" Burch and wife Geraldine; daughters, Lynda Jacks and husband Russell; Brenda Bower and husband Dickie; grandchildren, Lori, Lindsey, Chuck, Amy, Tom, Ashlie, and Billy; great grandchildren, Addie, Patrick, Jordan, Lydia, and Grace. She is also survived by her sister, Josephine Cassada, and her beloved dog, Copper.

The family is extremely grateful for Hospice, especially Norma Bennett and her team of love givers, and Mary's wonderful care providers, Michelle Little, Temeka Steele, and Sandra Crawford. We believed that they were sent by God.

The family will receive friends following her celebration of life service at The Congregational United Church of Christ on Tuesday, December 6 at 2 p.m. at 400 West Radiance Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the one Shriners Children's Hospital at 604 Doug Mayes Place, Charlotte, NC 28252, and Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro at 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405. Arrangements are being made by Forbis & Dick N. Elm Chapel. The service will be conducted by Reverend Julie Peeples.

Sticky, I was so sorry to learn of Mary's passing. I recall her lively personality from many Shrine events in past years. She certainly left this world a better place because of her presence and many contributions. I am thinking of you and your family and my hope is that the many fond memories will engulf the sadness you are now feeling. God Bless.

I worked with Mary Frances for many years at Jefferson & she was the most wonderful person. She talked often of her children, especially Chip & his peanut butter-she couldn't keep enough in the house for him. She truly loved her children & I will always cherish her memory. May God keep all of you in His care during this difficult time.

I was not priviledged to know Mary but I have seen her light shine for many years through her children and grandchildren. Her passing will leave a hole in our community.

I have such fond memories of Mary. She was so kind to me when I was a young bride of a police officer. She welcomed me in the "police family" and made me feel a part of it. Mary and Sticky were always so special to me and George. I know the hurt and pain of losing someone we love so much. My sympathy to all the family.
