Mary Byers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 1, 2025.
Mrs. Mary Beverly "Bev" Byers, 84, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025.

Born on August 18, 1941, in Bristol, Connecticut, Bev was the beloved daughter of Ambrose H. Steele and Alma M. Prewitt Steele. She grew up in a close-knit family alongside her brother, Ralph R. Steele, and carried the values instilled in her early years throughout her life.

Bev graduated from Bay Path Junior College on June 4, 1961. A year later, on July 21, 1962, she married Ronald E. Byers, beginning a devoted marriage that would span 63 years. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and music. For many years, Bev and Ronald were active members of Bristol Baptist Church, where their shared love of music flourished in the church choir-a cherished part of their spiritual journey.

In 1994, they moved to Raleigh, NC, where they continued to reside and share their life together for the years that followed.

A dedicated and nurturing mother, Bev is survived by her sons Todd R. Byers and his wife Deborah Searfoss, Stephen M. Byers, Randy A. Byers and his wife Dena Ellis, and Wendy M. (Byers) Stearns and her husband Jordan.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren-Briana E. (Byers) Golab and her husband Michael, Logan T. Byers and his wife Sabrina Melanson, Corbin M. Byers and his wife Ellen Richardson, Addam S. Byers and his wife Aaliyah Byers, Evan J. Byers, Payge S. (Stearns) Bentley and her husband Dominick, and Madison E. Stearns and her partner Spencer McKinney-as well as her great-grandchildren: Maddalyn G. Melanson, Camden A. Byers, Emerson E. Byers, Bryson Byers, Edmund Byers, and Finnley A. McKinney, with Lincoln M. Bentley and Jordan T. McKinney expected to arrive soon.

Bev's warmth and unwavering love touched every generation of her family and extended to all who knew her as a friend or neighbor. She will be dearly missed as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose and Alma (Prewitt) Steele; her brother, Ralph R. Steele; and her parents-in-law, Harry C. Byers and Eudora I. Morton.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her and serve as a lasting reminder of a life lived with grace and devotion.
