Mary C. Bythrow

Mary C. Bythrow, age 89, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died peacefully, on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Milton, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born in Milton, raised in Quincy, and was a graduate of the former Archbishop Cushing Central High School in South Boston, Class of 1955. She attended college and was employed as an accountant with the New England Telephone Company, where she worked for thirty-two years, working in various offices in Boston.

A woman of great faith, Mary was an active parishioner at Saint John the Baptist Church in Quincy for over fifty years, where she also served as a Eucharistic minister and a CCD teacher.

Mary cared deeply for those around her and was always there for her friends without hesitation when they needed support.

Most of all, she was dedicated to her family. Over the years, Mary found great joy in taking care of and spending time with her forty-seven nieces and nephews and over one hundred great nieces and great nephews.

Mary played a particularly special role in the lives of her nieces and nephews from the Miller family, offering unwavering guidance and support throughout their lives.

She was known for speaking her mind as well as her sharp wit and deadpan delivery, often catching people off guard with her quiet, clever remarks that brought smiles and laughter to those around her.

Beloved daughter of the late George and Louise (Keene) Bythrow, Mary was one of fourteen siblings. She was the loving sister of Robert Bythrow of North Reading and Peter Bythrow of Columbia, MD, and was predeceased by her siblings, Jean Ladas, George Bythrow, Jr., Martha Byrnes, Beatrice Miller, Frederick Bythrow, William Bythrow, twin brother Daniel Bythrow, John Bythrow, Valerie DiTullio, and babies, Alonzo and Margaret.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Sunday, July 13, from 2 - 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Monday, July 14, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
