Mary Commins Obituary
On Thursday, March 27th, 2025, of Bethesda, Maryland. Loving mother of William H. Commins (Lori), Victoria Commins, Mark Commins (Monica Mische), Paul Commins (Rochelle), MaryAnne Shvodian (William) and Margaret Bryson (Jay). Grandmother of fourteen. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William Dollard Commins, Jr., her parents, Victor and Olive Gies, her four siblings, and her son in law, David Mykita. Mary was a dedicated mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, an accomplished musician, and passionate about making the communities in which she lived and worked better places. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 3rd, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at her home in Bethesda. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 4th, 10:45 a.m., St. Jane Francis de Chantal Catholic Church, 9601 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD 20814. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name to Catholic Relief Services (crs.org) or S.O.M.E., 71 "O' Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001 (www.some.org). Mrs. Cummins was a true lady. As a child, I remember sitting on our porch in nice weather listening to her playing the piano. She was a gracious, kind and witty person. She always had the energy to invite me into her home and endure my inquisitiveness. She was a wonderful friend of my parents and great neighbor.
