Mary Cooper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2025.
Evangelist Mary C. Cooper, a devoted woman of faith, family, and service, peacefully entered eternal rest on August 29, 2025, at the age of 71. She was born on August 5, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Eddie and Mary Johnson, who both preceded her in death.

Mary graduated from Dunbar Vocational High School in 1973. She knew immediately that she wanted to be a seamstress. She mastered it, she possessed a profound understanding of fabrics. She made sure that every garment was finished to perfection. Mary had an eye for design. She was a skilled crafter with a deep knowledge to do a job well. Through perseverance and determination, she went on to earn her bachelor's degree in business administration from American InterContinental University in 2014. She was also a dedicated employee of Travail With Us, where her high level of skills and ability came in handy. She was valued; she was proud of her commitment, integrity, and kindness. It touched the lives of many.

At an early age, Mary accepted the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ under Elder Packer. From that moment forward, her life was marked by unwavering faith, steadfastness, and an unshakable devotion to the truth of the Gospel. She was a true pillar of her church and community, pouring herself into service wherever God placed her.

Mary faithfully served at Whole Truth Church of God in Christ for more than 20 years. Later, she stood in leadership at Solid Faith Ministries under her brother, Pastor Tony Johnson, where she continued to build and strengthen the body of Christ. In her later years, she joined her sister, Pastor Clairie Pointer, at Victory Temple Outreach Ministries, where she stood firmly in support and service. Through every season of her spiritual journey, she stayed a devoted Evangelist, offering prayer, guidance, and encouragement to all who crossed her path. Her life's mission was to serve God and His people, and she fulfilled that mission with unwavering devotion. Mary's greatest joy was her family. She was deeply loved, and to her family she was everything. She was the glue that held everyone together, the safe place they could always return to, and the steady voice of reason, comfort, and encouragement. No matter the circumstance, Mary showed up. When someone was hurting, she offered healing words. When someone felt discouraged, she lifted their spirit. When anyone in the family needed her, she was there without hesitation, supportive, strong, and full of love. She was a mother not only to her children, but also a guiding presence to every relative and friend who needed her.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her children: Antoine Cooper (Kola Cooper) and La' Tandra Cooper (Demetrius Harvey). She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert Cooper Jr.

Her legacy continues through her 15 grandchildren, with two grandchildren preceding her in death, and her three great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.

Mary is also survived by her loving sisters: Bernadine Lewis (eldest), Pastor Clairie Pointer, Bernice Johnson, and Lillie Johnson (Lester Pinex); and her devoted brothers: Davie Johnson (Jacqueline Johnson), Tyrone Johnson, and her baby brother, Pastor Tony Johnson.

She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family, and two very special friends, Ms. Gwen and Ms. Sharon, who were by her side through the years.
