Mary Corcoran Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 28, 2025.
Our beloved, Mary Corcoran, (Mimi), passed away on July 15,2025 surrounded by the love of her family. Mary was born to loving parents Elizabeth and Donald Stannard and grew up in Oakland, California with her siblings, Peggy, John, and Nancy.
Mary attended Holy Names High School, and in 1958 she married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Corcoran, beginning a lifelong adventure that included six children. Together they built a home in Diablo, California where everyone was welcome. With an adventurous spirit, they traveled the world, discovering unforgettable places-like Cabo San Lucas that became the backdrop for cherished family memories. Alongside the many joys of family life, she also endured the profound sorrow of losing two of her children, Peggy Greene and Timothy Corcoran, and her son-in-law, Jack Slavonia.
Mary was a rare and beautiful soul - sensitive, intuitive, and so connected with the world around her that it sometimes felt like she could read your thoughts before you even spoke. She was the kind of person who made you feel understood, and her warmth permeated the relationships she held so dearly.
Mary had a quick wit and a great sense of humor; she delighted in humorous banter and made you feel like a seasoned comedian with the way she laughed at every joke. She cherished the moments spent with her siblings and their spouses-a bond marked by deep closeness. She was soul smart with the kind of wisdom that can't be taught. Her friendship was a gift, and it was the kind of friendship that lasted a lifetime.
She had a passion for sports, and loved playing tennis and golf, and watching Warrior's basketball and Notre Dame football games on TV. She was an intense fan of many sports and after the games, you could always count on her for biting critiques of the players and coaches.
Mary also had a flair for interior design and a love for redesigning any room she walked into -with limitless energy for asking other people to move furniture around. Her enthusiasm for garden design was just as strong, especially when she had willing participants to help bring her vision to life. She was never without a cold Diet Coke, and always up for a glass/ "fishbowl" of Chardonnay while watching a good British mystery on TV or sitting by the lake in Tahoe with her family.
Above all, she was the true Matriarch of our family, and she created traditions and memories that will last through generations. Her heart belonged to her family. She adored her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews who lovingly called her "Mimi." Her love for them was limitless, fierce, and unconditional.
She is survived by Kathy (daughter), Pat (son), Erin (daughter), Chris (son), Peggy (sister), John (brother), Nancy (sister), fifteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by Thomas (husband), Peggy (daughter), and Tim (son). She will also be sorely missed by all her extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on August 11, 2025 @ 10:30am at St. Isidore church in Danville Ca, honoring the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
