Mary Margaret Dillon Saint Augustine - Mary Margaret Dillon, age 65, passed away on February 20th, 2023 in
Scottsdale, Arizona, surrounded by her family. Late of
Ventura, California and
Saint Augustine, Florida, Mary Margaret was the loving daughter of Michael and Mary Dolan, of
Bethesda, Maryland.
Mary Margaret was a devout and affectionate Roman Catholic spouse, mother, daughter, sister, cousin and friend. She was a beautiful person and a joy to encounter. Her humility, her prayerful, caring fellowship and her radiant smile brought light and grace to the lives of those around her. She excelled as a Masters-prepared nurse, a sports competitor, educator, writer, and sports coach. She freely gave of her knowledge and insight in assisting and responding to others, nearly around the globe. Her family life carried her through several areas of the United States and parts of Europe, during nearly 42 years of marriage within a broad, multi-ethnic extended family.
Along with her nursing/teaching careers and her loving motherhood, Mary Margaret pursued a variety of active pastimes, while leading a life of deep prayer and spiritual contemplation. A talented student and basketball player, she completed her high school studies and piano instruction in three years, at a private Washington DC high school. She went on to her nursing education at Georgetown University while playing scholarship basketball for the Georgetown varsity women's team. Her many achievements with the Georgetown club include one, yet-unbroken, individual season record. She played field hockey and she loved the ocean and beach as an avid bodysurfer and boogie boarder. Completing her Master of Science in Nursing, she worked in Emergency Room, ICU and CCU nursing environments and served as a nurse educator, then later as an elementary, middle school and high school educator and sports coach. She sat on Catholic diocesan committees and enjoyed reading, writing, and busy correspondence via text, email and personal cards and letters with family, friends and colleagues. Her many other interests included playing the piano, tennis, ping-pong, hiking, biking, bird-watching, gardening, sewing, quilting, crafting, cooking, and traveling. Mary Margaret was a fun-loving prankster, and for her family and friends she was an entertaining, much-anticipated conversationalist and story-teller. She remained a lively, loving soul throughout her final days.
Mary Margaret's services were held at Holy Cross Funeral Home in
Avondale, Arizona; Saint Bernadette's Catholic Church in
Scottsdale, Arizona and Holy Redeemer Cemetery in
Phoenix, Arizona.
Mary Margaret was pre-deceased by her parents and survived by her spouse, six children, eight grandchildren. three brothers and one sister. She was loved dearly and is very deeply missed by her family and friends. May the angels guide her into paradise.
