Entered into rest on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, Mrs. Mary Sewell Dukes, 86, loving wife of 36 years to the late Mr. M. Hugo Dukes
Mary was born in Gainesville, Georgia and was a longtime resident of the Augusta area. She graduated from LaGrange College with a bachelor’s degree in education and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa. Mary retired after teaching 33 years at Martinez Elementary School. She was a member of and attended Mosaic Church. Mary loved to read, enjoyed traveling and playing computer games, however, her favorite time was spent with family, telling stories.
Family members include her children: Lynn Gully (Ron), Bart Dukes, and Kelli Reville; grandchildren: Anna Lea (Brent), Jesse Gully (Katie), Christina Gully, Todd Slaughter, Candice McDonald (Cole), Chance Dukes and Cole Reville; great grandchildren: Jude Lea, Henry Lea, Major Price and Jean Dukes and many other loving family members. In addition to her husband Hugo, Mary was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Hoke Sewell and Willie Sewell.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. Bo Prosser officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
