Give It to God in Prayer

When my burdens lie heavy upon me
And the load seems too much to bear,
The words that often come to mind---
"Give it to God in prayer."

I think of yesterday's misdeed
When no one seemed to be there,
I recall the words that gave comfort---
"Give it to God in prayer."

I ask our Father to guide me.
To ease all my worry and care.
In the silence I hear a voice---
"Give it to God in prayer."

I'll face tomorrow with hope
As life's lessons I gladly share.
It's never as dark as it seems
When you "Give it to God in prayer."

To you, Lord, I call; my Rock, do not be deaf to me... Psalm 28:1

May these words be of some comfort during your time of sorrow.

Death, be not proud

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
