Mary was a treasure to my mother, Arlyne (Jerman) Van Westen, whom she knew most of her life. After Mary and her family came to Texas, Mom and Mary talked frequently. After my mother lost her ability to drive. Mary often drove out to Hurst to take mom to lunch, their favorite was Olive Garden. Mother really treasured those outings. Mary was a great lady who will be missed by many who were lucky to have known her.

Steve, Sara and all your loved ones. I remember Thanksgiving with Mary and it was always a joy to see and talk with her.
This may be the hardest time of your life, but remember all the joyful times you shared.
In loving memory,

My friendship with Mary began many years ago when I worked as a freelance office clerk part time at the company for which she worked as receptionist. I continued to work there after moving to another town in N. TX. We maintained our friendship through all the years afterward. Her hospitality allowed me to stay overnight at her residence when I was in Dallas, so that I did not have to drive back to my home further west at night. We had some good talks via phone and Facebook. I always appreciated her shares on FB. I will miss her very much. My prayers are with the family and other friends at this time of mourning.

I remember the first time I met you, Sara, and your mom when she brought you to my first grade classroom. Her children and grandchildren were the world to her. She always kept me updated with stories of you, Steve, and the grandchildren. May God comfort you with His love in Jesus and the promise of a reunion one day.

I was so saddened to hear about Mary's passing. She was most definitely a strong, hardworking and funfilled lady who taught Steve and Sara how to be the wonderful people they are today! Always loved to hear the stories of Steve & John's adventures with her. She was a friend, as well as, a mom. Take strength in those memories. My heart is with you.

That's such a great photo of the Mary I knew and loved. She had it all -- brains, sass, humor, honesty, and a warm, caring heart. Seeing her at different Scottish Rite events was always a highlight. Her family is in my thoughts.

It has been many years since I visited with Mary and family in Dallas. I can still see her smile and hear her voice. Hers was a beautiful life, and Stephen and Sara you are a testament to that life. Our whole family is praying for you as you say goodbye. Find hope in the victory that is hers through Jesus Christ. Much love,

I will miss Mary as she was always extremely nice, pleasant and a joyful lady with a wonderful sense of humor. Her Tuesday evening presence at dinner and in the gift shop was uplifting to all. She and I were always laughing at each other as we were somewhat hard of hearing and constantly looking at each other for clarification of what was said by someone at dinner when volunteering. She had a servants heart for giving back to others. She will be missed by many at the TSRHC especially the Tuesday evening volunteers. Rest in peace Mary and enjoy your new life.

Mommy....
There are no words to describe how heartbroken I feel. I was truly blessed to have the gift of you as my mom. I only hope that you knew how much you were loved. You were my rock. I love you Ma.

I will miss my fellow Tuesday night volunteer at Scottish Rite. I always made sure she had "her chair" ready for her when she joined us for Dinner! She always had a big smile on her face and came equipped with her unforgettable sense of humor and infectious laugh! I was blessed to have spent the last 5 years getting to know her and will cherish the memories! Tuesday night's will have a big void without our precious Mary! My thoughts and prayer are with her family!!

Sara and Steve, I join the ranks of all who surround you with love and support in these days. I have such a sense of your fun, wonderful mom, though I've never met her, from your stories waaaay back in our college days, Steve, and continuing now into our renewed friendship on FB in these latter days ;-) . I am grateful that you experienced love from the get-go and throughout your lives through such a parent, and I am sorry that the world has grown dimmer now as her light has left it. Know that the Minnesota faction of support and love for you both in this time is going strong.
