Mary Dwyer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2024.
Mary Jane Dwyer, 70, of Palatine, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 27, 2024. She was born July 31, 1954, in Oelwein, Iowa to the late Audrey (nee Wilde) and James Oelke. Mary was the wife of Daniel Dwyer Sr; mother of Daniel (Kari) Jr., Matthew (Anne), and Patrick (Lauren) Dwyer; grandmother of Dylan, Noah, Liam, Evan, Finley, Domenic, and Brooklyn; sister of Marsha, Tana, Jamie, Terry, Les, Anne, and the late JD; many nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law of the late Jacqueline and Richard Dwyer Sr.; and sister-in-law of Steven, Lee Ann, and the late Richard Jr.

Born in the great state of Iowa, Mary was a lifelong resident of the Midwest, raising her family in Rolling Meadows. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 48 years, and a loving mother to her three sons. Above all, Mary found true joy in being a grandmother to her seven grandchildren, whom she adored and cherished.

One of Mary's passions was preparing delicious meals for friends and family. Mary's meals were an expression of her love, generosity, and devotion to those she held dear. Her ability to create warmth and connecting through her cooking will be dearly missed.

An avid sports fan, Mary was a passionate supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears. Whether it was rooting on the Cubbies or watching da Bears play on a Sunday afternoon or sporting her favorite Hawkeye gear, her enthusiasm and team spirit were contagious. Her love for sports was matched only by her love for her family and faith.

Mary's faith in God was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, where she found strength, comfort, and purpose. Her unwavering belief in the power of prayer was evident in her fight for life.

Mary Jane Dwyer's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and the importance of family. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who loved her.

A memorial mass will be held on December 21st, 10am at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 455 N. Benton St., Palatine, IL. In lieu of flowers, hold your family close. Information (847)253-0224 or Meadowsfh.com

I just want to take a minute and share my Mary story: It was the first semester of our freshman year. Mary was the popular cheerleader and I was the new kid on the block, just transferring to Maquoketa Valley. We had the same class schedule, and with O by next to P in the alphabet, our lockers were next to each other, and we sat next to each other in study halls. We went everywhere together that semester. What I remember most is the popular cheerleader, just being nice to the new kid. I soon found out that for Mary, being nice was nothing out of the ordinary. It was just Mary being Mary. Rest in peace my friend, knowing that your kindness has not been forgotten.

Mrs Mary will always have a special place in my heart. She was kind and showed so much grace. So honored am I to have been given the opportunity to meet her and spend some time with her and her family! I know God places me in specific places, at specific times, for specific reasons and I am so glad He chose me to know Mrs Mary. The Dwyers are a special group of people; I am so grateful for you all.

Mary
You´ll always have a place in my heart. We traveled for Bisco together for 14 years. You loved cooking and I´ll never forget when me met Anne Burrell. In Manhattan. You were so excited. She was so nice to us. Love you. You´ll never be forgotten. Rest with God.
I will always remember you.
Love you.

Mary was a friend and classmate of mine at Maquoketa Valley. She was always fun to be with, and I spent the night with her several times. She passed on her Mother's recipe for Chocolate Upside Down Cake. I think of Mary every time I make this cake. My sincerest sympathy to Mary's family.

God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Mary was a fellow classmate at MV. She was always having fun, she enjoyed school, she lite up every room she ever entered with that smile of hers. Good things always come in small packages.

Sorry for your loss. Mary and I were classmates in high school, we were always in the front row because of our height! She was always full of laughter and fun to be with.

I will always remember Mrs. D for her energy. She had a way of making you feel so loved! She had a zest for life that was present whenever you saw her. She was so proud of her boys and did such an incredible job raising them with Mr.D! Her positive energy and appreciation for life will be missed but never forgotten. Truly blessed to have known her!
