Mary Emerson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 19, 2011.
Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Emerson of Plano passed peacefully into her Heavenly Father's arms on March 18, 2011 at the age of 90. She was born on August 2, 1920 in Ft. Gibson, OK at the family home-place. After graduating from high school, Libby attended Oklahoma College for Women before going to work for Braniff Airlines. She loved traveling, and visited all but one of the continents of the world. After the death of her first husband, Capt. William Ross Badgett, II, she moved with her two children to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she was employed as a travel agent. In 1956, the company transferred Libby, to Highland Park. She married Walter Caruth Emerson II and they moved to University Park where she lived for 40 years. Libby was a 50 year member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church. At the church she became involved in a writing group and began writing her personal history to share with her grandsons. After Walter Emerson's death, she moved to Plano to live with her daughter, Molly Chapman. She became a member of West Plano Presbyterian Church. She introduced the Writing Group concept to her new church friends and through this, encouraged others to share their stories. Christmas 2010, she was very proud to present her grandsons with a copy of her book, Remembrances, which are the stories of her first 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, her two husbands, and her son William Ross Badgett, III. Libby is survived by her daughter Molly Chapman of Plano, daughter-in-law Meg Badgett of University Park and grandsons Jonathan Chapman, Ross Badgett and Majors Badgett. The family wishes to thank Kelly Chaney for her love and care of Libby. The Visitation and Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 22 at West Plano Presbyterian Church, 2709 Custer Rd., Plano Tx. The Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The Funeral will follow at 11:30 a.m. She will be buried at the National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Scottish Rite Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
