Mary Fahey

Mary Fahey SALISBURY - Mary Ann Fahey passed away peacefully at Trinity Oaks, Salisbury on Thursday, December 27, 2012, after a two year battle with lung and brain cancer. She was 80 years old. Mary was born August 4, 1932 in Berwyn, IL to Czech immigrant parents Frank Benedikt and Josephine Drexler Benedikt. She attended the University of Louisville and enjoyed living in a variety of places including Louisville, Cincinnati, Munich (Germany), Vlissigen (Netherlands), Charlotte, Newark (DE), Naples, and finally Salisbury. But most important to Mary was her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a kind and beloved advisor to her family and a friend to everyone she met. Her Christian love and guidance has helped friends and family members in many ways. Mary was active in her church. Her testimony at St. John's Lutheran Church when she found her cancer has spread and had a lasting influence on those who heard her. She has served as President of WELCA at St. John's in Salisbury and as a Steven Minister assisting parishioners with a variety of problems at two different parishes in Newark, Del. and Naples, FL. At one time she served as the President of the Women's Aux. of the Little Theater of Charlotte. Mary is survived by her husband of 60 years, Patrick Fahey of Salisbury; sons, Patrick Jr. (Rick) and wife Shirley, Thomas (Teri), and David (Laura). Grandchildren, Jessica Kelly (Darryl), Shaina Brooks (Tank), Erin Seeger (Anthony), Patrick III (Cullen), Tommy, Josiah, Maggie, Sarah Fahey, great-granddaughter, Zara Kelly, born 12/12/12; and brother John Benedikt and sister Mildred Rebersky also survive. Mr. Fahey would like to express his deep appreciation to the personnel of Rowan County Hospice and Trinity Oaks Assisted Living for the loving attention they provided Mrs. Fahey during the last few weeks of her life. A service to celebrate the life of Mary Fahey will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Salisbury at a time to be determined. Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Fahey family.
