Mary C. "Mernie" Fitzpatrick (nee Ehrsam)
Mary C. "Mernie" Fitzpatrick, passed away peacefully at the age of 88, on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Westbridge Assisted Living in Wheaton, IL, surrounded by the love of her family. Mernie was born on January 11, 1935, the daughter of the late Herbert and Marie Ehrsam. On September 4, 1954, she married Edward F. Fitzpatrick, and the two celebrated 63 years of marriage before his passing in 2017. Mernie and Edward spent the early years of their marriage in Indiana before moving to the Joliet area in 1957. Mernie and Edward were longtime parishioners of the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet. Mernie enjoyed bowling and played in the Cathedral's bowling league for many years. She was also an active member with the Cantigny VFW Post 367 Ladies Auxiliary.
Mernie is survived by her children, Kathleen (Jim) Frazer, Ronald Fitzpatrick, James (Jamie) Fitzpatrick, and Gerald (Sheila) Fitzpatrick; her grandchildren Sarah, Katie, Julie, Stephen, Erin, Emily, Melissa, Megan, and Matt; her great grandchildren, Olivia, Drew, Bernard, Grant, Quinn, Marlee, Jackson, William, Taylor, and Braden; son-in-law Dan Goding; and her sister, Lorraine (Ralph) Heavelin.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Fitzpatrick; daughter Diane Goding; her parents; and her brothers Gerald, Robert, Herbert, and Roy Ehrsam.
As it was her request, cremation rites will be accorded, and all friends and family are invited to a Memorial Visitation to be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 2 p.m. until time of services at 4 p.m. Inurnment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband Edward. Memorials in Mernie's name to the Northern Illinois Food Bank would be appreciated.
