Mary Forbes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 21 to Apr. 22, 2021.
Mary Elizabeth Forbes, 97 of Capital Heights, MD departed this life on April 17, 2021. She was born on March 8, 1924 to the late Harry C. and Lucille Holly Dorsey. Mary was addressed as Elizabeth and was affectionately known as Aunt Liz, Aunt Lizzie or Aunt Sis to her nieces and nephews. She met the love of her life, the late Deacon Thomas S. Forbes, and in 1944 they were united in holy matrimony.

In 1951 she moved to Seat Pleasant, MD where for many years she was a loyal, devoted, and active member of the Church of the Incarnation. She served as a Lector, Eucharist Minister, Rosary Leader and Alter Server. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Incarnation Sodality. Elizabeth also ministered to the sick, elderly parishioners and served needy people by assisting the church in distribution food to the community. During the years that she was able, she attended mass daily.

Elizabeth worked as housekeeper/cook at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed her work and continued working well into her senior years prior to retirement in 2016. She was a very strong person who had a good memory of people, past and current events.

Elizabeth was a very cheerful kind-hearted person who enjoyed working in her garden, cooking, fishing, playing cards, bingo and she loved watching her favorite football team the Washington Football Team (Redskins), Family Feud and the news (CNN). When asked why she watched CNN all day, she would say "I don't want to miss nothing that's going on in the world today". She enjoyed entertaining guest in her home and hosting cookouts for family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, John, Robert, Harry and Joseph Dorsey and a sister, Emma Bond.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a dedicated Nephew/Son, Harry Dorsey and Roxanne Pinkerton, her adopted daughter. She was the adopted grandmother to Leigh and Devine. She is also survived by host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, two sisters in law, Elizabeth Forbes Herbert and Elizabeth Berry Forbes, one brother in law, Augustus Herbert and other relatives and friends.

Elizabeth was a godly woman who loved the Lord and her family. She had a life well lived and is now one of God's most precious angels.

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Church of the Incarnation, 880 Eastern Avenue NE, Washington, DC at 10:00am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. The Interment will follow immediately at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

"Mom Elizabeth" was a warm and loving lady. I enjoyed working with her at bingo and our many discussions at church.
