Mary C. Gency

Mary Catherine Gency, 97, of Fallowfield Township, peacefully passed away on Monday, June 30, 2008. The daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Urbany Sloboda, she was born April 7, 1911, in Dearth, Pa. She was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church in Charleroi. Mary worked in Charleroi at Montgomery Wards, Donut Wagon and Conti's Photo. She is survived by her loving family: sons and daughters-in-law, Burnell "Bud" and Ellen Gency, of Fallowfield Township, and Gordon and Nancy Gency, of Baldwin; grandchildren, Gordon Allan Gency, of Lancaster, Stephen Gency, of Donora, and Pamela Gency, of Pittsburgh; great-grandchildren, Rachel Schmidt, of Dravosburg, and Brandon Gency, of Donora; a sister, Rose DeHainaut, of Monongahela; and a niece, Irma Vivio, of Monessen. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen, in 1975; five brothers, Joseph, Thomas, John, Stephen and Paul Sloboda; five sisters, Helen Walker, Anna DeCovich, Bertha Brazak, Matilda Rechichar Dugan and Dorothy McMullen; and one granddaughter, Mary Irene Gency, in 1977. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC., 825 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 3, at 10:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of the Church with Fr. David Dzermejko officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
