Mary Hatchette Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 22, 2015.
Hatchette, Mary Frances, 99 of Halifax. It is with sadness that we announce the death of our sister, Mary Hatchette on January 20, 2015, in Halifax, NS. Born November 30, 1915, in Halifax, she was a survivor of the Halifax Explosion of 1917. Mary was the eldest of seven children born to Francis R Hatchette and Ann Elizabeth Silver.

During the war years, Mary worked as a member of the staff Office Intelligence at HMC Dockyard. After the war ended, she was employed in the office of Stock Brokers in Halifax, and Montreal. In her later years, she was employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism as Accommodation Officer. She retired in 1980.

Due to ill health in 2007, Mary left her home on Almon Street to reside with her sister, Dorothy on Winona Crescent. Before moving from her home, she was a devout member of St. Theresa's Parish in Halifax.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her sister, Gwendolyn, Halifax; brothers, Gerald, Antigonish; Francis, Halifax; Donald, Dartmouth; nephew, Anthony Hatchette, Pugwash; and sister-in-law, Margaret Hatchette. Mary is survived by her two sisters, Dorothy West and Sister Agnes Paula Hatchette, Caritas Residence; special cousin, Thomas Malloy (Mary), as well as sisters-in-law, Martina Hatchette, Antigonish; Wilma Hatchette, Dartmouth; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. We are comforted by the concern, love, and support of nieces and nephews during Mary's illness, especially that given by our niece, Jane Mac Innis, Cape Breton.

We are grateful for the professional care and attention given to Mary over the years by Dr. Ernest B. Johnson. We wish to thank the caregivers of RJF and the VON.

Visiting hours will be from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Sunday, January 25 in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax 902-455-0531. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 26 at 10:30 am in Saint Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliff Drive. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven, Sackville, NS.
Donations in Mary's memory may be made to Hope Cottage, St. Vincent De Paul Society at Saint, Benedict Parish, or a charity of your choice. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.

Dorothy & Sister Paula please accept our condolences. I loved the photo gallery. Mary looks so much like my Aunt Connie, that it's easy to tell that they were cousins. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Hatchette family.

My heart is sad with the news of Mary's death. She was a very special person to me. Her close friendship with my Mother was very special and after my parent's death she provided me with a link to them. I will miss her but her journey is really just beginning. Eternal life is now hers.
