Funeral services for Mary Jane Hogg, 83, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Green Acres Baptist Church chapel with the Rev. Dr. David Dykes officiating and the Rev. Dr. Paul Powell assisting.

Burial will be in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hogg passed away Jan. 22, 2011, in Tyler, and is now residing at her Heavenly home.

She was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Belton. She was a 1944 graduate of Temple High School and 1948 graduate of Mary Hardin-Baylor University. She then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth where she met her husband of 56 years.

She was a teacher for more than 40 years in the communities of Longview, Gillette, Nixon, Refugio, Woodsboro, Pearsall, Temple and Tyler. From 1987 to 1995, she was a teacher at Hogg Middle School.

The wife of a Baptist minister, Mrs. Hogg also led Bible study for many years. Her insight into scripture was truly a gift.

Throughout her career in public education, Mrs. Hogg guided her many students with a profound sense of humor and compassion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Bob Hogg, Tyler; brother, Jim Ford Stephens, Temple; father, W.C. Stephens, Temple; mother, Edith Margaret Stephens, Temple.

Survivors include sister, Margaret Frances Pagel and husband Clyde of Temple; sister, Carroll Dean Stephens Coleman and husband Larry of Houston; brother, Robert Joseph Stephens of Temple; sister, Myra Lee Stephens Parrott and husband Dennis of Plano; son, Robert Stephens Hogg and wife Cindy of Atoka, Tenn.; daughter, Kyla Jane Hogg Buckley and husband Ken of Tyler; daughter, Gina Rae Hogg Mahaffey and husband Lloyd of Tyler; grandchildren, Clinton Robert Buckley of Tyler; David Kyle Hogg of Fort Worth; Heidi Jane Buckley of Tyler; Bethany Rose Hogg of Atoka, Tenn.; Curtis Nolan Buckley of Tyler; Stephen Bryan Hogg of Atoka, Tenn.; Hudson Lamar Mahaffey of Tyler; and Havynn Grace Mahaffey of Tyler.

Honorary pallbearers are her nephews.

The family would like to offer sincere thanks to Tyler's Dr. Royal Becker. A special thanks to Dr. Laura Ferguson, nurses, Darline McCraw, Tiffany Ross, Lesa Barnes and the staff of Hospice of East Texas HomePlace for the tender care they provided. The family also would like to show appreciation for her personal home care providers, Lessie Wynn and Jean Mayfield.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of East Texas Foundation and the Green Acres Baptist Church Building Fund.

Family and friends will receive guests from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.

I remember the wonderful times with Mrs. Hogg as a high school Spanish teacher. I am very sorry to hear about her death and we will all miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. May the Lord be with all of you.
