Mary Jean Swanson Obituary

Born May 19, 1930, the oldest of seven children of Wardlaw and Polly Edwards, she was raised and educated in Lakeland, FL. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and practiced for 37 years. Jean married John 'Jack' Cavanaugh in 1953, and together raised four children. She was widowed in 1975. She married Russell H. Swanson in 1977. They moved to Bella Vista, AR, from Orlando, FL, in 1999. She was widowed again in 2021, resulting in her move to Kansas to live closer to family.

Survivors are: two sisters, Sallie Blasingame and Polly Manship; three Cavanaugh sons, John, Patrick (Laurie), and Michael (Elizabeth), as well as three Swanson sons, Gary (Francie), Phillip (Rhonda), and Richie, two Swanson daughters, Pamela (Tony) Johnson and Paula (David) Davenport. There are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren too. Preceded in death are Jean's parents, her four brothers (Ward, Jim, David, and Jerry) and her daughter Kathleen ('Kitty').

Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m., Sat., Oct. 21, 2023, at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church, Bella Vista, AR. Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Interment on site immediately following mass.

Years of quilting became her pride and joy. Prize-winning, handcrafted quilts were created with love for each family member. Always up for a game, whether Bridge or Mexican Train, Rummikub or Manipulation, Jean knew the rules, taught you how to play, and wished you luck. Teaching young and old, she was an original `gamer.´
