It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mother, Baba, and Great- Baba Mary Olga Kindrachuk on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 with her sons, Ralph and Derek, at her side. Mary was born on the family homestead near St. Julien, Saskatchewan on October 21, 1924 to Alex and Ann (Yuzwa) Boychuk. She was raised on the farm and attended school nearby. At the age of 17 she met Michael J. Kindrachuk, they married on September 5, 1943. Over the years Michael's teaching career took them to many small towns around Saskatchewan. They settled in Saskatoon where they became members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of Holy Trinity. Mary also became a member of the UWAC Olha Kobylianska Branch and was actively involved with the Kinsmen Kinettes. Mary was a dedicated wife and mother. Her two sons were her pride and joy throughout her life. Mary was an artist and musician and shared her talents through painting large scale mural projects, pysanky (Easter eggs), singing in the church choir, and writing and directing musicals. Because of Mary's love of her Ukrainian culture and heritage she was a significant contributor to the Ukrainian community through her involvement in Folk Fest and the Vesna Festival. Baba was an amazing cook and she enjoyed entertaining and hosting traditional Ukrainian Christmas dinners for family and friends. She was an avid gardener and maintained a flourishing crop of fresh vegetables and flowers each year. In her downtime she enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble, bowling, working on puzzles, and bird watching. Mary enjoyed nature and loved animals. Mary is survived by her loving sons and their families, son, Ralph (Lori) and their children Michael (Victoria) Kindrachuk, Lara (Ryan) Keller, Jordan (Anne-Marie) Mills, Ashley (Andrew) Williams, Dani (Tim) Spencer, and eight (soon to be 10+) great-grandchildren; son, Derek (Lissa) Kindrachuk and their children Marianna and Nicholas; sisters, Anne (Albert) Hrytsak, Adele (+Paul) Sorokan, Jane (Tom Brown) Ganchar; brother, Myron (Rose) Ganchar; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Boychuk; sister-in-law and dear friend, Alice (+Richard) Kindrachuk; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and close friends, Elsie Stefanuk, Mary Budzak, and Vicki Rak of EVAMM Construction. Mary joins in eternal peace her husband, Mike; parents, Alex and Ann; stepmother, Olga Boychuk; brother, Victor Boychuk; sisters, Helene (Fredrick) Harshman, and Lesia (Fred) Stadnyk; mother of Michael and Lara, Rhonda Kindrachuk; brothers-in-law, Fred (Natalka) Kindrachuk and Wesley (Bea) Kindrachuk. Prayer Service will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. and the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be from the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of Holy Trinity, 919 20th Street West, Saskatoon with Very Rev. Fr. Taras Makowsky officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Orthodox Cemetery.
