Mary Lane

GLOUCESTER – Mary (Swinson) (Morris) Lane, 87, died on October 2, 2016, at Seacoast Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was born in Gloucester on January 18, 1929. Mary spent many happy years in Florida with her husband Ray Lane before returning to Gloucester in 2015 after he passed. Mary was predeceased by her parents Ludwig and Leah (McCarthy) Swinson and her son Kenneth Morris, also her siblings Edith Hildonen, Gloria Madruga, Phyllis Levie, Howard Swinson and Kenneth Swinson. She is survived by her sons Gary and Robert Morris, John Morris and wife Joan; grandson Jared Morris and wife Theresa; great-grandchildren Sebastian and Sienna. She is also survived by one brother Harold Swinson and many nieces and nephews. In addition, she is also survived by her stepchildren David Lane and his wife Kathy, Scott Lane and his wife Susan, Gary Lane and Sharon Milatello. Mary attended Gloucester schools and worked in a number of restaurants in Gloucester and Rockport including The Tavern and Camerons. She did this for over 30 years along with her sister in-law and best friend Ginny Swinson. She was an accomplished golfer at Bass Rocks Golf Club where she played with her husband Ray before retiring to Florida. She and Ray enjoyed traveling and visiting many places in the United States, Europe, South America and Africa. She also enjoyed many happy years with her large family including picnics at "The Pines", summers at long beach and family gatherings at her home on Mill River in Riverdale. Through good times and bad, Mary always had a story, a joke and smile on her face and was always there when help was needed. She will be missed by all. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 10, in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Graveside services will be offered Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary's memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
