Many years ago (early 80's), I worked for Colonel Lofstrom as her secretary at HQ AF Systems Command on Andrews AFB, MD. Just recently learned of her death and wanted to say that I am 100 percent sure she is taking care of nursing business in that wonderful place called Heaven. Over the many years since then, I always smiled when I saw her name associated with a cause that was near and dear to her heart and hoped she was well. The next time I am in DC, I will be sure to leave a flower for her at the Nurses Memorial, a project she was extremely involved in. RIP Col Lofstrom. You are missed!

I just learned of Mary's death. Mary gave a speech to our brand, spanking new group of Air Force Nurses in 1978. It was the most uplifting and inspiring speech I ever heard. I had the fortune to see Colonel Lofstrom again many times throughout my career. She was one of a kind. She was a mentor and a wonderful role model. I don't think they make them like her anymore. Her presence will be missed in this world. My deepest condolences to all her family.

On behalf of the Society of Air Force Nurses, please know we are also mourning with you, Bert, the loss of your wife and our friend and colleague, Colonel Mary Lofstrom. You are not alone in remembering a truly remarkable woman who made such a difference in the lives of so many. She was a Patron and an original member of the Society which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. A SAFN donation will be made In Memory of Mary to the Women's Memorial Foundation. Mary will be missed, and she will not be forgotten by her "Air Force Family." Brigadier General Linda Stierle, USAF (Retired)

Mary was a lovely, kind and generous woman, a proud retired officer of the U.S. Air force and devout Catholic. Her and Bert's marriage serves as a wonderful example for us all.
Mary will be sorely missed. Kevin Salaway
