Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the age of 102 with family by her side. Predeceased by her husband Michael (1970) and brothers Peter and Metro Muciy sister Katie Tytor and cousin Olga Webb. Loving Mother of Edward (Lola) and Michael; much-loved 'Baba' to Gerry (Jennifer Demers) and Kim (Casey Dodds); and Great- Granny to Lauren and Victoria. Born in the Ukraine in 1911, she came to Ottawa as a teenager in 1927. Married to Mike Macies in 1934, they were driven to own their own property, and start a business; Mike and Mary purchased some land at the outskirts of Ottawa (Merivale and Carling) in 1939 and built their dream restaurant. A few cabins were soon added and a little highway motel of 12 units, built in 1952, was expanded over the years. Her retirement years were spent in Florida and at her beloved cottage on the Ottawa River with Olga, which she maintained and drove to until she was 95. Thanks to the staff at The Westwood Retirement Residence for their dedicated care that made Mary's time there so eventful and fulfilling. Thanks also to the many neighbours at the cottage who assisted her over so many years. Special thanks to Dr. Lloyd Rossman for his years of caring. Friends and family may call at the Westboro Chapel of the Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd. (at Roosevelt) on Monday, April 7th from 2 pm – 4 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, April 8th at 10 am. Interment at Pinecrest Cemetery, 3600 Baseline Road. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Arthritis Society would be appreciated by the family.
