Mary Marsh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 3 to Mar. 8, 2023.
Mary Louise Marsh was born on March 26, 1932 in Selma, Alabama. Mary was loved by family and friends throughout her 90 years of life. She passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

Mary came to Travis Air Force Base with her loving husband, Grady James Marsh Jr. after CMSGT Marsh's second tour in Viet Nam. The family moved to Fairfield after her husband's retirement from the United States Air Force. They were married 47 years. Both considered Fairfield their home.

Mary was committed to God, family, friends, and community. She served them well with love, character, and distinction. She led a full and busy life helping others. Among other schools in the Travis Unified School District, Mary worked at Vanden High School for 17 years, before retiring in 1997. Her other endeavors included the Solano County Grand Jury, Juvenile Justice Commissioner, Fairfield Women-In-Action, the Assist-A-Grad Scholarship Foundation, along with volunteering for many public works projects in the city of Fairfield. After Grady's passing, Mary supported the Committee to Project Travis.

Mary established the Marsh Family Scholarship that continues to help high school seniors attend college. As a result of her civic engagement, Mary was honored as the Grand Marshal of the city of Fairfield 4th of July Parade.

Mary is survived by her two sons, Roderick V. Marsh and Reginald V. Marsh, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was recognized by so many during her travels around the city. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion to God, family, and a love of service to others.

Mrs.Mary was a Godsend. She always put smiles on all she encountered. Her stern voice and direction helped a lot of students that let her talk. I loved her smile and laugh! It was a pleasure to work with her. I will miss her. Blessings to your family!

Heart felt condolences to the family of Mary Marsh. I knew Ms. Mary from working at Vanden High School and attending games. Ms. Mary was highly dedicated to her assistant teaching skills in literature for the students. She was one of the most kindest and generous people I worked with at Vanden High. Ms. Mary will be missed by many.

Oh I'm so sorry! Mary Marsh helped more Vanden kids stay in school and succeed in school than anyone will ever know. Kids trusted her with EVERYTHING and she always showed them respect, kindness and love. As a new teacher in 1990, I had some fears of my own. Mary was a constant cheerleader, always ready with encouragement and humor. I remember laughing with her daily about one thing or another. Such a gift to me and to so many others. Thank you for sharing her with all of us, Marsh brothers. She created a rich and powerful legacy - Noone of us probably knows half of it. I miss her but will always carry her in my thoughts. Much love to you family.
