Mary Ellen Marzinski, age 87, of Park Street, Manistee died Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.                       


Mary Ellen Gallagher Marzinski was born April 28, 1935 in Ann Arbor, to the late Helen (Gallagher) Idalski.  Mary graduated from Fraser High School in 1954.  Mary married Daniel Marzinski on September 14, 1957 at Guardian Angels’ Catholic Church.   She was employed by (American Boxboard) Packaging Corporation of America prior to starting her family.  Mary was also employed by Burger Chef and later Hardees restaurants in Manistee for many years.  She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish (St. Joseph Catholic Church) in Manistee, the St. Joseph Rosary and Altar Society, and the St. Joseph Civic Club Auxiliary.  She was also a former member of Mind Stickers.  Mary volunteered her time for Manistee Catholic Central Schools and was an honorary member of the MCC Alumni Association.  Mary and her husband, Dan, were inducted into the Manistee Catholic Central School Hall of Fame in 2002.  Mary is best remembered for her kind and generous heart.  She loved baking cookies and cakes and giving them away to friends and family.  Mary also enjoyed spreading a little sunshine by sending dozens of greeting cards to family and friends every month. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.


Mary Marzinski is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Michael and Connie Marzinski of Manistee, and three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ken Hansen of Manistee, Judith and Peter Garrison of Paw Paw, and Debra Kaminski and Phil Kaminski of Manistee, daughter-in-law Linda Marzinski of Canton, 16 grandchildren:  Shannon Schroeder (Josh Getkin), Adam Marzinski, Brittany (Bill) Fenbert, and Abigail (Brandon) Ruelle, Kendra (Chad) Conroy and Justin (Stefanie) Marzinski, Heather (late Levi) Johnson, Logan Hansen, Ryan (Maddie) Hansen, and Nicholas Hansen, Jared (Carrie) Garrison, Jessica (Geoff) Apawu, Austin Garrison, and Grant (Faith) Garrison, Jason (Jaclyn) Kaminski and Nicole Kaminski, and 2 step grandchildren, Nathan Garrison and Gabriel (Beckie) Garrison, and 23 great grandchildren: Juliette and Zachariah Schroeder, Delilah, Elisia, and Emerson Fenbert, Charlotte and Madelyn Conroy, Drew and Tate Garrison, Tessa and Hailey Marzinski, Oliver Hansen, Parker and Ellery Hansen, Cleo Johnson, Jaylee (and Baby K) Kaminski,  Roman Garrison, and Levi, Iris, Owen, Jeremiah, and Joshua Garrison, one sister-in-law, Marilyn Kaminski of Manistee. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.


In addition to her mother, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, in 2003, son Robert in 2021 and by brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, Evelyn & Emery Oleniczak, Alice & Jack McCarthy, Vina Jankowski, Carl & Leona Marzinski, Dorothy & Clem Stefanick, and Erwin & Carlene Nowak and a stepbrother and sister-in-law, Deacon Charles and Marion Skubick.


Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish Catholic Church in Manistee with Reverend Ruben Munzo celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery also in Manistee.


The family will receive friends at the Herbert Funeral Home on Friday evening, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. where relatives, friends and members of the St. Joseph Rosary Society will pray the rosary at 8:00 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. up until time of procession to the church.


A memorial has been established in Mary’s name for Manistee Catholic Central Schools, the Manistee County Medical Care Facility, and Divine Mercy Parish with envelopes available at the funeral home.
