I was saddened to read of Mrs. McDonnell's passing on the Wilmette FaceBook page. I saw her picture and recognized her instantly, looking just as feisty as always. I still remember when we learned of Mr. McDonnell's passing, and it brought me back, as if I was still a student at SFX. Living across the street from the black and white house on the corner made us neighbors but in that area we were more like a family. Both having large families that spanned a decade, or more, having kids in the same grade as a brother or sister, coming to the house to sell girl scout cookies or just to visit, some of my most vivid memories include interactions with the McDonnell clan. Mrs. McD was always moving and shaking, welcomed us, front door or back, with a smile. I remember her love of sports, as well, as it was so different from my Mom's stance on the subject. I was blessed to have known her. Love and Peace to your clan.

My deepest sympathy to the McDonnell family. Your mother was one of the dearest woman I ever met. Such a strong and caring lady to continue alone to raise her seven children. We have received a Christmas card from her every year for the last 40 years. It was usually one of the first cards received and always touched me to hear from her. I will surely miss that. She also was the true ideal of a Catholic lady and so strong in her faith. She is now enjoying the gift of heaven given to us through the death and rising of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. May you love and memories of her bring you peace and comfort.
God bless you all,

I am so sorry. Katie, No wonder you and your family are such kind and loving people. What an example your mother must have been.

I was fortunate to stay at Mrs. McD's house as a guest of George's when we were in college. She treated me as she would one of her own children. A wonderful memory. RIP Mrs. McD and you are now with your beloved husband. Thoughts and prayers to the McDonnell family from the Schards.

What a great picture of a great lady. Her smile comes through just as I remembered it and just as we all see it in her children.
She was the first Mom I knew that was a Celtics fan and how we enjoyed her hospitality during the holidays.
Lisa and I enjoyed how she still wanted a Christmas card with pictures of our kids and then our grandkids.
God Bless her and all her loved ones. She lives on in the children and grandchildren who loved her so.

Seeing Lee's picture here just melted my heart and made me smile. Bless her heart. Much love to all the McDonnells. Your family and home evoke memories I cherish deep in my heart. Like how Lee graciously welcomed us each and every time we walked through that back door...and we walked through a LOT. And how many Cubs games did she watch with us?? Ah, the memories are coming fast and furious. I am truly blessed and highly favored to have crossed paths with Lee McDonnell. ❤
