Mary Mckinnon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 3, 2011.
Yvonne McKinnon passed away peacefully on April 26th after suffering a stroke. Predeceased by her husband John in 2008, they were married for 56 years. Yvonne was born February 26th, 1931 in Port Alberni, BC.
She was raised in Port Alberni with her siblings on 10th Avenue. She was generous, loving, funny, caring, very athletic in her day, great cook and baker, very devoted to her faith. A wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and friend.
Our Mother particularly loved playing cards, softball, dancing, the occasional ping pong game, was a fan of Dancing with the Stars and American Idol and loved her family. She and John played cards with the neighbours Nonny and Porky every Sunday night for over 40 years.
Our Mom loved her home of 50 years and was able to continue to live at home thanks to the assistance provided by the Homecare workers and long time family friend Eph Walker.
Survived by five children: Maureen, Maurice (Lynne), Larry (Sharon), Roger, Rick (Tracey); and predeceased by her daughter Renea in 2002. She had 9 grandchildren: Michelle, Michael (Bryn), Kevin (Nada), Jason, Christopher, Steven, Cianne, Pharran, and predeceased by her grandson Blair in 2010. In addition she also had three great-grandchildren Andrew, Emily and Hayden.
Our Mom came from a family of ten with four remaining members: Marie (Jim), Irene (Bert), Josephine (Bill), Paul (Helen), brother-in-law George, sister-in-laws Marjorie and Margaret. She was loved by all the Gaudet and McKinnon family and will be missed at the next family reunion.
She will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in memory of Yvonne to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Prayers will be held on Friday, May 6th at 7:00pm at the Chapel of Memories, 4005 6th Ave, Port Alberni.
The funeral is being held at the Catholic Church, Notre Dame Church, 4731 Burke Road, Port Alberni on Saturday, May 7th at 1:00pm. Reception to follow in the church basement.

Please convey my sympathy to the entire family. I have very fond memories of family visits when we were children and always enjoyed your mother's hospitality. I think the last time I saw her was at my parents' place at Sproat Lake and it was a time of great sharing and laughter. My prayers are with all of you at this time.
Regards, Mary Head (Spencer)

I have great childhood memories of visiting Auntie Buns and Uncle Johnny. Their home was always warm and welcoming. And, there was always ice cream! I will always remember Auntie Buns, especially her laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
