It was around 1990 when I met Mary and David at a Colonial Williamsburg History Forum. This became one of the Foundation's popular annual conferences and kindred spirits enjoyed returning year after year for varied early American topics. I shared a Chester County address with Mary and David and occasionally ran into them at Longwood. Recall her giving two friends and me a private tour of Winterthur. 100% agree with the first sentence of the last obit paragraph.

My Cousin, Mary Michell Meese, was a lot of fun. I only regret that I did not have the opportunity to spend more time with her.

I worked with Mary at Winterthur, and admired her smarts and her kind nature. She was always quick to share her extensive knowledge of the decorative arts and American history, and her guests would emerge from tours of the museum laughing and smiling. She encouraged me to join the Decorative arts trust, and to enjoy their trips and tours. Mary was always learning, and always cheerful. I loved being able to call her my friend.
