Mary Melzar Obituary

Visit the Legacy Remembers website to view the full obituary.
Mary Angela Melzar, 61, of Wrentham Massachusetts passed away peacefully in her home Monday evening surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on May 18, 1964 in Ridgewood, New Jersey, the daughter of Aurora (née Savoia) and Raymond Melzar. She was the youngest of nine, having been raised among seven sisters and one brother.

Mary is survived by her siblings Theresa Melzar, Pamela Makudera, Karen Bianco, Christine Melzar-Malmquist, and Raymond Melzar, in addition to her beloved in-laws Eva Melzar and Dennis Hebner. She also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary is preceded in death by her parents Aurora and Raymond Melzar, as well as her sisters Gerilyn Melzar, Linda Carlough, and Martha Hebner.

For most of her life, Mary lived with her loving mother and father. In 2005, Mary moved into her forever home on Creek Street in Wrentham, where she made lifelong friends with roommates and house staff.

Mary was employed at Lifeworks in Westwood for 17 years (1996-2013). She was famous for showing off her weekly paychecks and offering to buy anyone she loved a brand new car. After her retirement from the work force, Mary stayed busy attending day program at Open Sky from 2014 up until her death.

In her free time, Mary enjoyed watching old television shows, playing Wii games with her nieces, going to Dunkin Donuts, listening to Michael Jackson, and flirting with anyone she fancied.

Mary lived life the fullest. She loved showing affection and making people laugh. She was happiest spending time with her family, especially when it involved sharing a meal together. Mary was endlessly proud to be a sister and an aunt, and she never missed an opportunity to tell friends and strangers alike about her family.

In her last few months, Mary was happily surrounded by two newborn great-nephews who brought her immense joy even on bad days. Her love for every generation of her family was admirable and infectious.

A celebration of life will take place Saturday, August 16th at 11 am. The service will be held at the United Church of Christ in Medfield. In lieu of flowers, consider donating in Mary's name to Open Sky Community Services.

Mary, I will always miss hearing your voice coming through the door with that joyful, familiar, Guess who ?"and without missing a beat, I'd say, "Mary Melzar." You'd come back with that laugh and say, "Hey old lady'. Those little moments meant so much. Your light, your spirit, your sass-they'll always stay with me. Rest peacefully, my beautiful Mary. You are deeply missed and forever loved

Miss Mary Melzar, you are the reason I chose my path in my career. Becoming the assistant manager at Creek and then job coach at Lifeworks, your presence gave me purpose. I will forever be thankful for all the joy and laughter you brought me. Your presence will continue to live on in my heart. Thank you for being a part of my life since 2006. Mary, I will miss your hugs and snarky sense of humor. You will be greatly missed and loved by so many. My condolences to the Melzar family and to the amazing Open Sky staff across Creek St. and Wrentham Day program. Forever missed.

I´ll never forget Mary and her larger than life persona. She was always smiling and laughing and enjoying life and the people around her. From playing cards, to eating Chinese food together, she was a kindred spirit to me. She will be missed. Rest well, Mary, until we meet again.

Mary made herself right at home sitting in my office covering me in love, poking fun, and sometimes wreaking havoc by getting me locked out of my computer or phone! I will quote you often and think you even more. Love you Mary!
