Mary Miller Obituary

Mary Louise Miller

Mary Louise Miller, 98, of Tiffin, passed away at 10:50 a.m., Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Elmwood at the Shawhan in Tiffin.

Mary was born on May 12, 1919 in Liberty Center, to the late Roba and Harriet (Ostrander) Diehn. She married Lawrence N. Miller in Toledo on December 31, 1938 and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1986.

Mary is survived by her children, Louise (Bob) Scaife of Tiffin, Loretta Miller of Tiffin, Marietta (Kenny) Estep of Tiffin, Linda (David) Karcher of Carey, Nancy Owens of Tiffin, Lawrence Miller of Tiffin and Gary Miller of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Charles Miller; a daughter, Patricia Oberst; two brothers, Ralph and Darrel Diehn; and three sisters, Mildred Wood, Carmen Rudolph and Thelma Crawford.

As a homemaker Mary lovingly cared for her husband and nine children.

Neighborhood softball games were a regular Sunday afternoon activity for her and the family. Catching a big one always brought a smile to Mary's face on fishing trips to the river at the back of the family farm or Lake Erie. With a special love for children she served as a 4-H leader for over 25 years. Church was important to Mary. She regularly attended the First Lutheran Church and actively filled many church lady roles including sewing with the 'Piece Corps' quilting group.

Mary enjoyed her garden and sharing its bounty with family and friends. Well into her 80s she often loaded buckets with flowers and spent the day sharing them with 'old' people.

Mary's wonderful smiling face will be missed here but she will continue to serve the Lord in her heavenly home. The love from her Elmwood family has been greatly appreciated.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4-7:00 p.m., on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Engle-Shook Funeral Home, 135 N. Washington St. in Tiffin. Funeral services for Mary will be held on Saturday September 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Clayton Bailey officiating. Visitation will also be one hour before the service. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Willow Cemetery in Oregon, Ohio. The Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin is assisting the family with their arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 300 Melmore Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883. Online condolences may be left for the family at:
