I just listened to a CBC podcast on Mary O'Flaherty...we should all be so brave when the time comes to help anyone, especially our cousins to the south! Thank you for your bravery and kindness during such a dangerous time. My condolences to all who knew and loved her...

Although for obvious reasons I didn't borrow any clothes from Mary for the exfiltration, I too was a beneficiary of her courage during difficult days in Tehran. She was always cheery and encouraging. A great lady.

Mary generously loaned me her clothes and sandals in January of 1980 when I escaped clandestinely from Iran after the U.S. Embassy takeover. Joe and I will never forget her bravery in carrying on with her work at the Canadian embassy for 3 more months regardless of the danger in which sheltering us placed her. She will always be in hearts.

Mary was the Communicator at the Canadian Embassy from 1978 to 1980 and served cooly and faithfully throughout the Iranian Revolution and then the exfiltration of the American "houseguests" So she was one the true heroines that the film Argo failed to mention. Her steady calm and rich sense of Newfoundland humour served her colleagues well through those uncertain times.

Mary did Canada proud. An inspirational person and outstanding public servant.
