Mary's sense of humor was my favorite thing about her! She and my mom (her cousin, Joanne McCarthy Wilson) would always laugh when they were together. My heart goes out to Hank and the "kids" for such a heartbreaking loss...thank you for sharing her with all of us :)

My memories of Mary are of her great laugh, kindness, honesty and wit. Our last meeting together was over lunch. After my living many years in Hawaii and time away from the family she let me know how much I was missed and how glad she was to have me back in the fold.
Of coarse she gave me a hard time too.....but I loved her for her honesty.
She is the last of her generation, our Matriarch (sp?) -with exception to Kathy ( ok, no pressure Kathy)
My childhood is filled with memories of laughter, good food, music, along with family fights and then making up, most of it spent in my grandmothers kitchen with Aunt Dode, Mary and Kathy as well as my mom weeezie and Aunt Sis Ann bringing in all thier joy and love. The kitchen is where all the fun people always ended up whenever my grandmother had a party.
I know it's where I wanted to be and what I look to create now in my life.
I know that Mary is now in the kitchen with the rest of them having fun!
Also, I am now worried about my spelling for this draft as Mary was also my substitute teacher at Samo High!
Love to Hank, Jackie, John, Mike and Steve as well as all her grand kids and brother and sister John and Kathy.
My Prayers are with you,
Much Love, Diane Derieg

Mary - you will be missed dearly! I am happy that you are finally at peace with God and you can cheer UCLA on from your comfortable cloud in Heaven! Thank you for so many fond memories at your home in Santa Monica to your old house in Big Bear. I remember when you taught me how to play Crazy 8s! It was such a fun game -- still is! Thanks for always asking about me and caring like you did. You raised one heck of a clan! Your legacy lives on through them in their laughs, smiles, mannerisms, and especially their love. Thanks for the comfort you gave to all those around you - especially my mother. So blessed to have you in my life. Give all my love to my grandparents!

"There's something about Mary" how true is that! Mary has been a part of of my life since I can remember-One of the best things about her was her laugh and sense of humor-she always sent the best emails. I have so many, many memories of being with her and Hank and the best ones include our times in Big Bear! My love to Hank, Jacqueline, John, Mike & Steve. Love cousin Celia :)

Dear Mary, I am thankful our boys John Cole and Drake were able to spend quality time with you in their early years walking with you on San Vicente, to the parks, for yogurt. It made me happy to watch you impart to them your love of books through both reading to them and taking them to the library, like you did for John 1st! Pass on into Heaven...you are out of pain; know we all love you Mary E. Olivier.

Mary was my mother's best friend, and so a part of our family for years and years. I always felt her warmth and love. It was wonderful to see her at my mother's memorial service a few months ago. I wish I could be there for her's, but please know I am sending thoughts of love to all her family.

I have noticed over the years that you have played your cards far better than most and certainly 100% better than all of the world's "USC GRADUATES" combined. No doubt a bridge was waiting for you on your way to heaven and a table looking for a 4th welcomed you with open arms.

Mary taught me many things. The abc's, how to raise my family, but most importantly, how to live ....and die, with dignity. She will be missed.

Mary was indeed a woman of great strength, humor and intelligence. I so enjoyed knowing her all these many years and I will miss our parking lot chats.
