Mary Lee Stone Rose, 74, of Roanoke, Virginia, was born on October 16, 1947, in Chatham, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her father, Alex Blanton; mother, Mary Frances Stone; husband, Walter Rose, Sr.; two sons, Alex Rose and James Rose; brother, James Stone; and aunt, Betty Kelso.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Morning Star Baptist Church. Mary shared her love for the Lord with her family as she required each one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to attend church. She walked each one of those generations to Morning Star Baptist Church.
Mary worked in the restaurant industry for thirty-three years, until her retirement. She then became the neighborhood babysitter and caregiver. She was the kind of woman who would feed the neighborhood without complaining, 365 days a year. Her children and grandchildren could count on a daily phone call from Mary to get their day started. She showed each one love in her special way. Those that met her
will never forget her famous phrase “I am Mary Stone.”
Mary was a proud resident of Southwest Roanoke, where she was reared and resided until she gained her wings on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
Those left to cherish her memory are: her children, Walter (Ruby) Rose, Mary (Nathan) Preston, Tracy (Rodney) Lewis, Timothy Croner, and James Croner; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Douglas Stone and Richard Coleman; devoted nephews, Tyrone Thomas, Kevin Stone, Marvin Croner, and Ernest Croner; devoted nieces, April McLaughlin and Tracey
Spate; a loving and devoted friend, Theresia Waller; special friends, Rosa Burnette, Peggy Parker, Steward Caldwell, and Sylvia Wilson; and a host of other relatives, including the Kelso family and friends.
A public viewing will be held Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home & Crematory. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2022, in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. Condolences may be sent to www.Hamlar-Curtis.com.

To Walter and his family:
So sorry to hear that your mother is no longer with you all. Take comfort in knowing that she is with the angels. I could tell how much you loved your Mom because your face would always light up when you used to talk about her at work. Cherish all the beautiful memories each of you had with her.
