Mary Elizabeth Stiles Mary Elizabeth (nee Gunning) Stiles, formerly of Penn Valley, died June 24, 2011 at her daughter's home in Aston. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 58 years, John D. Stiles. She was the daughter of the late Julia Flanagan Gunning and Terence Gunning of Jersey City, New Jersey where she grew up. She was a member of St. Thomas More Parish, Allentown and a 45 year member of St. Margaret Parish in Narberth, where she was a member of the choir and a volunteer in the middle school. Betty, as she was known to her friends and family, graduated from St. Aloysius Academy High School, in Jersey City, NJ and Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. She met her husband in New York while he was attending the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. They married in 1947 and moved to Lower Merion, where they started their own business, Pilgrim Mortgage Sales Corporation. Betty was an active member of the Penn Valley Women's Club. She served on the Board of Directors and was an annual volunteer for the Antique Auction. In addition, Betty and her dearest friends - the "ladies lunch group" - which started with her college friend and some friends from Merion Mercy Academy, have met faithfully each month at a member's home for lunch and chat for almost 60 years. Survivors: Daughters Kathleen Stiles Fimple (Thomas - deceased) of Aston, PA, son John David Stiles, Jr., of Oceanside, CA, Elizabeth Stiles Furio (Dr. Nick) of Allentown, PA; granddaughters Pamela, Jennifer and Julia Stiles, and Lizzie Furio; brother Thomas Gunning (Lee Hoegberg); sister-in-law Elizabeth Bowden Gunning (James, deceased brother). Visitation: Family and friends may call at Bringhurst Funeral Home, 225 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA on Wednesday, June 29th, 2011 6 to 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 AM on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at St. Margaret Parish, 208 N.h Narberth Ave., Narberth, PA Interment to immediately follow at West Laurel Hill Cemetery.
