Mary Elizabeth (O'Toole) Threeton

Mary Elizabeth (O'Toole) Threeton age 90, previously of Portsmouth, NH, most recently of Rochester, NH, passed away on June 30, 2025. She was born on March 6, 1935 in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. In 1955, she met and married Robert R. Threeton and became a devoted military spouse.

Together they traveled to California, Alaska, Texas, and Mississippi, finally settling in New Hampshire with their six rambunctious children.

A very busy mom and homemaker, Mary spent her 'down time' enjoying creative activities like ceramics and sewing, creating complete Barbie wardrobes with tiny buttons and zippers.

She had a true Irish-Catholic upbringing in the church, always sharing her faith through song. She and her close-knit, lifelong girlfriends sang in Portsmouth choirs for decades and frequently visited local nursing homes to entertain the residents.

The OG-DIYer, she was relentless in updating her home decor- painting and wallpapering into the night and at the age of 83, even spent a summer sanding and staining her deck.

Holiday meal prep began days in advance, filling her kitchen with aromas of delicious baked goods.

She will always be remembered for her cookie jar, which was endlessly stocked with fresh, chewy chocolate-chip cookies.

She spent her final days surrounded by family and loved ones and passed peacefully in her sleep. She will forever remain in the hearts of many.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert R. Threeton, her parents Jeremiah and Mary O'Toole, and her brother Jerry O'Toole.

She is survived by her sister Maureen Beck of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, her niece Donna House and family and her nephew Greg Beck and family.

She is also survived by her six children, Katherine (Kat) and her husband Donald Richard of Rochester, NH, Cynthia Wiggins of Dover, NH, Lisa Gayle Leary of Saco, ME, Robert J. Threeton and his wife Felicia (Lopez) of Arlington, VA, Daniel Threeton and his wife Jennifer (Naples) of South Berwick, ME and Mary Beth Threeton of Portsmouth, NH, as well as sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on August 16th at Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth, NH followed by a celebration of life for both Mary and Robert R. at the home of Kat and Donald Richard.
