Was a student of Mrs U clear back in 1970/71. I have forgotten many teachers, but not her. She was a joyful person who mentioned her family often. I still remember her fifty years later.

Dear Paul and Family,

We are so sorry that we couldn't be with you to say good-bye to Mary. I have just read some of the letters in this guest book and am so proud and in awe of the wonderful things all her students had to say about Mary. I hope you can get some joy out of reading about her praises. We are praying for all of you. Love, The Daniels' Family.

Dear Utschinski family,

It has been so many years since I have been in contact with all of you, and still the news hit me hard as if it was just yesterday when I hung out with all of you, swam in your pool, spent the nights on your deck and played baseball in your field. The whole Utschinski family played such a huge part of my childhood memories. I send all of you my heartfelt sympathy and compassion. You will all always have a place in my heart.

Love always,

"Lah"

When my best friend called me in tears to tell me that Mrs. U was gone, I was overwhelmed with a sense of denial. I could not fathom that the sweet lady who carried on about Sally Sue, Billy Bob and hammered various grammatical rules into our little 7th and 8th grade brains could actually be gone. I was in the eighth grade class of '95, and my younger brother Karl was in the class of '98. I remember sitting in her classroom, staring at the seagulls on top of the Kmart rooftop, clear as day. I can hear her reading to us in that silly southern accent from "To Kill a Mockingbird". In the subsequent years following my time in the classroom with her, I have applied what I learned from her nearly everyday of my life. I have spent many a late night double checking papers to ensure that I had not ended any sentence with a preposition. I cannot begin to express my deepest sorrow for the loss that the Utschinski family, our community, and everyone who knew her has now experienced. Mrs U will always be missed, and I will never forget what she has taught me.

Dear Utschinski Family,

My children were students at St. Anthony's until my oldest was in 6th grade and my youngest in 3rd. Although Mrs. U never taught my children she had an incredible reputation for being kind, considerate, loving and patient. I can't even imagine the pain that you are feeling and I can only hope that you will find some peace by knowing that she is with our Lord. You will be in my thoughts and my prayers.

Mrs. U,

You were truley an inspiration to us all. I remember going into your classroom early every day in 8th grade, you were so fun to hang out with before school. Then when my daughter came along, you got her a beautiful little pink outfit and just adored my daughter. Every time I saw you in the hall when I was visiting my mom, you would hug me when I came in to St. Anthony.(I would purposly make a visit to see you). My prayers are with you and your family. You were a wonderful, classy lady and most definitly a very good teacher. You will be missed!

Mary mentored me in the areas that were the hallmarks of her teaching career: patience, human kindness, diligence, and humor. I will never forget what I learned from her. It's just not "cricket" (as she would say) to lose her now. I am thankful to have known her and worked with her.

My heart is broken for all you family members whom she loved so dearly. To know her was to know you in a way. She was so proud of you and felt blessed to be your mom (and grandma)and Paul's wife. Thank you for sharing her with us all these years.

Utschinski Family-

I was a student of Mrs. U.'s at St. Anthony in 1999 and 2000. In the mornings of 7th and 8th grade I would attend the beofre school program and she would write me a note to get me out (very much appreciated!) and I would go up to her classroom and help file papers and organize things. Mrs. U. always made me feel very special since I was her helper for the year. I remember putting on her Elton John c.d one morning blasting "Crocodile Rock" and she walked in and sang along with me. She gave me that album when I graduated in 2000 and I will remember her by it always. Mrs. Utschinski was a very special person and an excellent teacher, one I will remember always. My deepest condolonces to you all,

Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow I felt upon hearing of Mrs.U's passing. It's funny how you think that we've got all the time in the world to visit with those that truly touched our lives-this has served as a wake-up call to me. I will seek out those that deserve my thanks and gratitude for having been such a important part of my life as was Mrs. U.

To the family, my heart goes out to you, you were blessed with many years with your Mom, thanks for sharing her with all of us, she is now, really an angel.

Mary,

It was great teaching with you for 18 years. I am so glad that my children, Rachel and Matt, had the privilege of being your students. Thank you for all the help and encouragement that you gave them day after day. I feel blessed to have been your colleague and friend. It saddeneds me that your life came to such an abrupt and violent end. You truly embodied the spirit of the ideal Catholic school teacher: one who loved others as herself, spread the Gospel tirelessly, and was always there for others as Christ was. Yet, you were always such a "common-sense" sort of gal. I really enjoyed the time we spent together at Michelle A's wedding, at the track, at the Whistle Stop, as well as the almost two decades of teaching together at our beloved St. Anthony School. You have inspired so many teachers, students and their families. As long as I live, Mary Utschinski, you will truly represent all that is good and inspiring at St. Anthony School.

Love,

My deepest sympathy to the Utschinski family. I attended St. Anthony School first through the fourth grade, and shared classes with her son, Thomas. I never had "Mrs. U" for a teacher, but her presence was well known at the school, whether you had her for an instructor or not.

I have no doubt in my mind where she is now. She did so much for so many people and students throughout the course of her life. She will never be forgotten, and she most definitely be missed.

To Mrs U, I may not have known you personally, but I do know for a fact you touched many lives, and that you played a HUGE part in lives of people that I know. God bless you. You will be missed, but not forgotten!

From one of the many kids that attended St. Anthony School that didn't have you as an instructor (unfortunately)...
