Maureen (nee O'Leary) Wah, born March 30, 1925 in Dublin, Ireland, passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 due to a brief illness.
Fondly known as Mona, she spent much of her youth in Ballymurn, Co. Wexford on her grandmother's farm. During her teens, her family immigrated to Luton, England, where Maureen worked in a bomb manufacturing plant during WWII. It was there she met her husband of 58 years, Chuck Wah (predeceased), who was serving in the U.S Army Air Corp. They married and gave birth to their first son, Joseph.
After the war, service personnel dependants were able to rejoin their military spouses and, in 1947, the family moved to Santa Paula. There they had two more children, Paul and Pamela. They owned and operated a family grocery business for 20 years. Maureen also worked as a caregiver for the elderly for 20 years. In 1971 the family moved to Ventura. Maureen enjoyed a long retirement filled with family gatherings, drives in the country, dining out, caring for animals.
Maureen is survived by her three children, Father Joseph (Catholic Priest, Archdiocese of Los Angeles), Paul, and Pamela; two grandchildren, Brandon and Amber; and three great-grandchildren, Alina, Adrien, and Joseph.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 3175 Telegraph Rd., Ventura. A reception will follow the funeral service in Assumption Hall. All are welcome. The Burial Service will be celebrated at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura, and will be private.
In lieu flowers, donations would be appreciated to the following organizations: Westside Pregnancy Clinic, 11500 W. Olympic Blvd. Ste. 570, Los Angeles, CA 90064; ASPCA, (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura. Condolences may be left at www.TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
