Our condolences to the entire family. Mary Lou was a refreshing light in the world, and I was honored to know her. I have nothing but fond memories and smiles when I think of her. May warm memories warm your hearts during this time of loss.

We did meet Mary Lou in Germany, in the City of Mainz, located close to Frankfurt Airport. After a Rhine river tour by boat, she and Leo joined us for dinner at a typical Wine-Restaurant. And there we learned about her so interesting life, especially her aviation-life. Amazing!
It seemed to us that whenever she boarded an aircraft at least one of the pilots was trained by her.

Mary Lou, you were my friend, sister, mother, and mentor. You took me under your wing and showed me how to fly. You shared my family and I shared yours. We shared a lot of laughter and some tears but we always knew we were there for each other. We had so much fun together even if it was just sitting in the hangar watching the airplanes. I will miss you but know that you are without pain now and in a better place. I was blessed that I got to spend a few hours with you before you left this earth and that you said my name and knew who I was. You enriched my life and all those around you. Thank you Mary Lou for just being you. You were special and that same legacy lives on in your girls. I will miss you.

During my weekly reading of the Post-Gazette, I was sad to learn about the passing of your wonderful Mother, Ladies...I will never forget the fun times at the lake, Hilton Head, and of course flying with your family. Sincerely,

She now has her angel wings. She will live on in all the lives that she touched. I will keep her with me on all my flights through her love, friendship, and all the wonderful memories. Thank you for giving me my wings Mary Lou!

So sorry to hear about this loss to the world. I met Aunt Mary Lou when I was growing-up. But being on the west coast I truly miss not being able to get to know her more. Would've loved to have seen that Piper Cub of hers!

We always knew our grandma as "Grandma Airport." Growing up with a grandma who had airplanes in her home and a runway in her back yard that is no surprise! From riding in the back of the plane on a trip with grandma flying up front to having her prop me up on pillows for the first time to see outside, my grandmother has been and always will by my inspiration. Her passion for life and travel and flight were contagious. I remember her opening the window and letting me try to catch a cloud in my hands and taking me for loops and rolls in her C-150 Aerobat. Doesn't everyone's grandma do this?? I love her and will miss her every day and I know she is golfing and flying in heaven today. She blessed us all with the gift of education through college. She raised 6 beautiful daughters and has over 20 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren to carry on her legacy. As a woman in aviation, I am honored to call Mary Lou Waite my grandmother and hope and pray to make her proud. We miss you and love you grandma.

Leo, thank you for loving and watching after and being such a wonderful companion and husband to grandma. You have blessed all of our lives and en-richened her life in so many ways! You are an amazing addition to our family, an amazing teacher and grandfather and we love you!

We can never pass the grand fireplace at South Hills C.C. without a smile breaking out on our faces. Just last month we looked at that fireplace and were reminiscing about Mary Lou at the Aero Club of Pittsburgh's Christmas parties there.

Mary Lou could enliven and enrich a crowd by her very presence. She loved life and was so full of life, and she loved people.

Who could forget the legendary Aero Club hangar parties she threw on her lawn? We were setting up for one, and it was there that she taught me the elements of a throwing a good cocktail party. "Always use the tiniest tables or the guests will plop down and sit around all night--I want them mixing".

There are so many memories of ML that we enjoy recounting, and frequently do. But in all the anecdotes, antics, and humorous stories, when it came to aviation, we always saw a safe, professional pilot.
I always wanted to fly with ML. Somehow I never did.

With her passing, our lives are a little more reduced; the quality a little more diminished. She added verve, and spark, and friendship to our lives. We hadn't seen ML during these last years of illness, but we always knew she was "out there".

Our sincere condolences to Leo and the entire Waite family. You memories are much more abundant than ours, and may they sustain you and console you through this difficult time.

Fly high, Mary Lou. Our air racing days together are among the highlights of my life. Everything we did together was filled with fun. You brought laughter and happiness to so many people. I'm so glad we were such good friends for all those years. I'll bet you are up there teaching the angels how to fly right now.
