I remember Mary from our girl's school in Alexandria, Va, St. Agnes! Class of 1959! Mary, Patience Saunders (d. 2015) & I were on various sports teams, and Mary introduced us to eating Pomegranates, which many of us had never seen before! Now, whenever I have Pomegranates, my thoughts harken back to Mary! She had lustrous hair (in waves), and saucy brown eyes, and always a smile for everyone! I was looking at some names from our class of 1959, and came across hers--I did not know that Mary had died earlier this year! It's always sad when you have the best intentions of getting in touch w/someone--and the years get in the way. I am so sorry for your loss!!--

She joined the Descendants of Francis Broward group, created for our legacy. I never met her, but we exchanged texts on Facebook frequently and she would comment on my post. Always had a positive Christian message. Rest in God's peace and grace.

I knew Mary Broward as a little girl as we visited Fort George Island with my dad Randolph Hardee. Daddy loved the family of his Uncle Nappy and Aunt Vivian. We would sit for hours and listen to the stories of the Broward family. In the last 10 years Mary and I became closer as she told me the stories which contributed to my blog and book in progress www.girlsontheporch.com. Mary always made me laugh. Our conversations helped me understand the great ancestry we shared as Broward girls. Meeting Louis was the icing on the cake. I looked forward to talking to Mary every time I ran into a storyline which was confusing. With Mary´s help I navigated the waters of our historical family learning more about her grandmother my great grandmother Annie Isabel Douglass Broward and our shared aunts Annie Dorcas, Josephine (my grandmother and her aunt Enid) Elsie Ella Agnes Florida Elizabeth and her father my great uncle Napoleon. I will miss you Mary. Prayers for your beloved Louis your sister Beth your children and grandchildren you were a great spirit! Cousin Sharon Hardee Jimenez
