Mary West Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 6 to Jul. 7, 2010.
DENISON - Mary Linda (Goforth) West, 60, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison.
Visitation for Mary will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard St., Denison.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard St., Denison. Officiating will be Bill Jones.

Mary was born on October 17, 1949 in Dallas, the daughter of Sloan Peavy Goforth and Mary Ruby (McKamy) Goforth.
She is survived by her children: son, Michael and his wife Teresa West of Denison; daughter, Audra West of San Francisco, Calif.; sister, Peggy and her husband Buck Clark of Kemp; stepmother, Sylvia Tiernan Goforth of Houston.
In her youth, she attended both Grier and Hockaday preparatory schools where she was an avid equestrian and competitive tennis player. Later, she focused her attention on psychology and studied at Grayson County College while working with the mentally disabled at MHMR of Texoma.
Also during her time, she assisted her son, Michael, with the family business. Whether it be a friendly smile or teaching a new student how to kick, she was dedicated to those she helped. To know her was to be enveloped by her gentle patient nature and kind spirit. She was a doting, compassionate and loving mother, respected by friends and colleagues.
She was a person for whom class and sophistication came naturally. She enjoyed architecture, antiques, music and the outdoors. She spent much of her time reading, gardening and playing the piano when she wasn't with friends or family.
We will forever be touched by her and she will always live in our hearts.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard Street, Denison, Texas 75020. Mary,
John felt the warmth of your spirit this evening and he knows you are happy and he is happy for you. What a successful life to have lived in love, compassion, and giving of yourself.! As was said at your funeral, you walked in Jesus' steps, and that is a goal we can all work towards, but so few accomplish with your grace and gentle manner.
Audra is the very essence of you and I know you must delight in that, as I know she delights in being your daughter who can reflect upon her mother as a hero. She so cherishes you!!
At lunch we referred to you as a black belt in lace. Always a lady, with a tiger hiding inside!
I know you will occasonally tap John on his shoulder and provide encouragement, and thump him on the head when he is in a political rant.
Your spirit remain always in our hearts and we will honor your spirit in thoughts and deeds.
Love,
Joy

We are so sorry for your loss.
Pharris cannot post his condolence. He is 57, but he is only 4 y/o with skills of a 6 y/o and his communication skills are limited. But his unconditional love is phenomenal. Mary impacted Pharris's life. He loved Mary so much that if he met someone that reminded him of her tenderness, sensitivity, and sheer gentleness, he would call them Mary. I then have to explain to whoever why he called you Mary. Mary touched many challenged spirits. I cannot think of anything more immortal than to be remembered in such a way.
You are all in our prayers.
Respectfully,
Pharris Linden and Kathy
