Mary Zeigler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 21 to Jul. 30, 2023.
Stuart - Mary Maureen (Reene) Zeigler, passed away after a brief illness at the age of 90 on July 11, 2023, in Stuart, Florida. Born on January 31, 1933, on a small farm outside of Wakita, Oklahoma, to Kathryn and Bert Koehler. Reene was a true gem with a modern outlook and no small amount of spunk.

Reene married the love of her life, William (Bill) Charles Zeigler in June 1954 after a whirlwind romance. Over time, their family grew to include 5 children, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Reene had a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse. She pursued excellence by studying and achieving certifications as a cardiac critical care nurse and also in vascular ultrasound technology. Her dedication and unwavering passion for healing touched the lives of countless patients and inspired her peers.

Reene had a wide range of hobbies that brought her joy. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and traveling. She was an early devotee of Tai Chi, even learning how to instruct others in this ancient practice. Bill was an Air Force reservist, so they were eligible for "Space A" flights and would travel in whichever direction flights were destined for sitting on canvas bench seats lined along the plane sides! Such adventures landed them in Turkey, Greece, New Zealand & Egypt to name just a few.

Reene found solace and spiritual fulfillment at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She cherished her time worshiping with her husband, son & daughter-in-law, and her community at services each Saturday.

In addition to her professional and personal pursuits, Reene valued her family above all else. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill Zeigler, their children and their spouses Laura (Greg), Kate (Bob), Bill (Kelli), Lisa (Jeff), and son-in-law Chuck, husband of her late daughter Paula. Grandchildren and their spouses include Shaun( Joy), Brian(Sally), Marisa(Aaron), John(Caroline), Nick, Burke, Jason, Easton, and McKenna. Her great-grandchildren include Logan, Bo, Gibson, Claire, Carden, and Jeffrey.

A memorial service celebrating Reene's life will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, located at 1454 SW Mapp Road, Palm City, FL, July 28, at noon followed by a reception at The Talk:House 514 NW Dixie Hwy, Stuart, FL.

Instead of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to ECHOnet.org or Habitat for Humanity, organizations close to Reene's heart.

We have known Reene and Bill for nearly 20 years, meeting them shortly after moving to Florida while working out at the YMCA. Reene was teaching Tai Chi and Bill was engaging us in conversation while we were working out. Through the years our friendship has continued with dinners out and in our homes where we have enjoyed sharing travel stories, family updates and discussing world events. We feel privileged to have had Reene and Bill as friends and send our sympathy to Bill and his wonderful, loving family.
With our love,
Kate and Jack Cunningham

Such great times with family in OK City and at our family reunions! Aunt Reene was always so fun to be around. Loved that she was up for all kinds of adventures and piercing all our ears with her sterilized nursing needles and ice cubes! Until we meet again, Aunt Reene!

So many wonderful memories of great adventures we had together. A woman of great strength with a loving heart. A sweeter love story has never been told.

I worked with Reene in CCU at South Miami Hospital. I/we all loved her and wanted to be just like her!
