Mason Gibbes Edens Hawley

COLUMBIA - Ms. Mason Gibbes Edens Hawley passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013. Mason was born November 3, 1934, in Columbia to Mrs. Jane Mason Gibbes Edens and Henry Harmon Edens. Mason was the granddaughter to Mr. Wade Hampton Gibbes, Jr and Mrs. Heloise Weston Gibbes. She studied at Converse College and graduated from the University of South Carolina. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She owned and operated the Heritage House gift store in Five Points for 17 years. Mason was a former President and Lifetime member of the Columbia Garden Club, former President of the Daughters of the Holy Cross of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. She was a member of the Colonial Dames, the Junior League of Columbia, Current Literature Club. As a member of Trinity Cathedral, she served on the Altar Guild and as former Chairman of the Harvest Hope Food Bank for the Cathedral. Her many interests took her all over the world as well as to countless concerts and museums both here and abroad. Her irrepressible laughter and intellectual curiosity were boundless. She is survived by her children, William Chauncey Hawley IV, Jane Mason Hawley Ballowe Ager and son-in-law, Thomas Peterson Ager; grandchildren, Steven Excel Ballowe and Mason Hawley Ballowe; stepgrandchildren, Ashley Peterson Ager and Christopher Brett Ager; and her sister, Mrs. Anne Walser Edens Evins Rainey and brother-in-law, John Stringer Rainey. Services and reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
