Dear Paul and Peggy,
I am very saddened to have just heard about your tragic loss. The loss of a child is unimaginable for most of us. I know Matthew only from what I have researched after receiving this news. The contributions he has made in his short life are remarkable and I am sure that they bring you great pride. May the memories of his accomplishments and the joy he brought to you in life give you peace and strength.
You are in my prayers,

Paul: so sorry for your loss; my prayers to you and your family. The path of grief is tortuous, and a journey that no one willingly embarks. Nothing fills the void, but I hope that good memories soon overtake the suffocating murk of Matthew's passing.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family on Matthew's passing. Losing a loved one is hard but losing a family member not the natural order is especially difficult. May your memories of Matthew see you through. Dear Paul, Peggy and family,
Even though it has been years since we've seen each other, I remember Matthew from St. Vincent de Paul church. He was the same age as our son Matthew so I can't even imagine the sadness and pain that you are all experiencing having to say good-bye to him at such a young age. It sounds like he lived life to the fullest and followed his dreams! We are praying for your whole family through this sad time. Take Care and God Bless!

I've been really struggling thinking of what to write, what to say to express how deeply sorry I am to hear of what happened. My first thought when I was told that Matt had passed away was about his family. I thought of how they are all so close and how they must be so devastated that Matt is gone. I met Matt's family when we dated and always marveled at how much they not only loved each other, but how much they enjoyed each other's company. They were unlike any family I had ever seen. So kind and supportive of one another. It was truly amazing to see and I am very grateful to have been a part of that for the time that we were together. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss and that you have to experience this unimaginable pain of losing your son and brother. I hope that you can take some comfort in the outpouring of kind words from his friends, colleagues, and mere acquaintances and know that he had such a positive impact on so many people. He encouraged countless people to follow their dreams and pursue their passions in music and theatre, to create beautiful things. I'm so grateful that I met him, that we fell in love, and that we were able to share some time together. My love for him inspired me to write, to sew, and to paint while we were together. To create beautiful things. And I know even in his passing that he will continue to inspire others to create beautiful things and to pursue their passions.

And if I go, while you're still here...
Know that I live on, vibrating to a different measure
--behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me, so you must have faith.

Until then, live your life to its fullest.

Just whisper my name in your heart,

Matt, some of my earliest memories are walking the path in behind your house and hopping the fence to play on your computer, with the new "internet", hanging out at Nick's or Marc's jamming, camping with Jeff, Iain and Kyle, and basically just seeing each other ever single day and playing "semi-charmed life" about a million times a day. We didn't connect much after high school but seeing how many people you impacted over the past 15 years (and really, your entire life) is amazing. Thank you for sharing your talents and your friendship. The phrase, "you'll be missed" is an understatement. Rest in peace old friend.

I was a student of matt's only once and honestly I can say that I wish I had him so much more. He taught me how to use my imagination in ways I could never think of, he fortified my dream of being an actor, he had a fashion sense that was so out there that it inspired me to have interest in different clothing other than the cookie cutter outfits that other kids wore and I hope one day When we meet again in the land above I hope to tell him about how he made me laugh and how he made me a better actor all because of what he taught me.
He really broke the mold

I had the pleasure of teaching Matt when he was in grade eight at Eric Graves and I remember him so fondly. He was an amazing student - a brilliant mind with a wicked sense of humour. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile that could light up any room. I loved reading his essays and reflections- there was always insight and an unusual perspective. His family was totally supportive and their love for each other was so evident. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

To Matthew's Family,
Many, many years ago the Kent family went to Alexandra School with my family, the Bakers; and June and my sister "Twinkle " were very good friends, while I was friends with Garnet.
Then my sister and June both married navy men and they were all friends together as they both started their families .......the Amyottes were such lovely people, I have never forgotten them ....and want to offer my sincere condolences to you all on the tragic loss you are now facing ! Our family has also suffered losses of our young....and I pray that your obvious Faith will strengthen, comfort and sustain you , may God bless you deeply and surely in these difficult days to come.

What a fantastic guy Matt was! I was a year behind Matt in the Dalhousie acting programme and had the privilege to spend a decent amount of time hanging with him in the hallways and dressing rooms at school, as well as to perform with him on stage. He was on stage and he was in life; giving, engaging, and downright hilarious. I hadn't spoken to Matt in many years - and so I was quite floored by this news - but anytime he would pop into my thoughts, it was always, ALWAYS a memory of his huge grin or booming laugh. I can barely remember him any other way. This is a man who left an impact on the people he met, as he did on me. I knew Matt somewhat well. Not very well, but somewhat well. And so I hope it is a testament to his energy and spirit that a mere acquaintance as myself would feel so strong an inclination to reach out and share these thoughts. I couldn't not. What a gift he was to all.
