Matthew Bauer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 16, 2024.
Matthew Leonard Bauer, age 36 of Grapevine, Texas, passed away and joined our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 12, 2024.

He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 11, 1988. Matthew graduated from Southlake Carroll Senior High School in 2006 before going on to study and play baseball at McLennan Community College, followed by playing at the University of Central Arkansas. Upon graduating with a bachelor's degree in health science, he began a career in IT Sales at Verizon and HP and was employed by IBM at the time of his death.

As a quiet introvert to many, Matthew's closest friends and family knew him as one of the funniest, most honest, and tender-hearted individuals they had the privilege of knowing. His quick wit and sharp humor could light up any room, and his honesty and sincerity were qualities that endeared him to all who knew him.

Matthew had a remarkable ability to simplify the most complicated of situations, often offering sage advice or mediating family disputes with just a few well-chosen words. His wisdom and guidance were cherished by all who sought his counsel, and his influence extended far beyond his immediate circle of loved ones.

Matthew enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and taking his beloved dog, Byron, for walks at Lake Grapevine. Matthew loved the game of baseball. At three years of age, he could name the starting lineup for the St. Louis Cardinals. It wasn't long after that that he started playing in the local recreational leagues, followed by travel club teams, school teams, and division one college baseball, including being selected to the all-star collegiate summer team.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Mark and Mary Bauer, sister Morgan Holt (Teddy), along with nephews Theodore and Mason and niece, Charlotte. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Leslie and Lena Bauer and Bud and Gwendolyn Leonard McDonald, and cousin Dylan Graves.

A Celebration of Life will be held at White's Chapel Methodist Church in the Sanctuary, 185 South White Chapel Boulevard, Southlake, TX 76092 at 1 p.m. Central Time on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

The family would like to thank all of the Grapevine EMS first responders, doctors, and nurses at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Grapevine.

His family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Matthew's name to Chandler's Hope Addiction and Recovery Ministry at White's Chapel.

Honorary Pallbearers will be:

Chris Alfono, James Allen, Rikard Bergh, Zack Dickson, Kevin Ortega, Michael Pair, Wes Schneider, Austin Tolliver, Justin Yeager, Carlos Reyes, and Justin Drescher.

I send my deepest condolences to the Bauer family. Matt was one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Growing up playing on the Madcats together are some of my favorite life memories. Reliving those moments later In life playing softball together as adults are something I cherish very much. Every memory I have with Matt is filled with friendship, kindness and how easy he was to talk to. I have attached a photo that I recently shared with Matt of our childhood friends and us at my birthday party in middle school. There is no shortage of good memories I have with Matt. My heart breaks for the family. Much love and prayers.

I remember the first time I saw Matt, I was training him at IBM for the job but was quickly distracted by his wit and good looking smile. His smile is what I will forever cherish and remember. He was truly one a kind, honest and genuine. He used to rap songs (he loved anything by fetty way) which I found funny but he was actually very good at it.

We toured Wrigley field together once, the look in his eyes was amazing and he was awestruck. We then went to batting cages by the field, he was like a little kid in a playground and also dang talented.

He was one of the best people I have ever met and I am deeply sorry for this loss. My thoughts are with the whole Bauer family.

Morgan,
Matthew held a special place in my heart at IBM and still does to this day. He always found time out of his day to help me in the cafeteria with his Sales University notes. Those moments meant so much because I was new to the role, yet he gave me confidence with each encounter and I will forever hold his kindness close to my heart.

Mark and Mary, I haven't spoken with you since leaving IBM and this is certainly not the way I want to say hello.

Words are hard to come by under these circumstances and my heart goes out to both of you. I have two kids close to the same age as your son and I cannot imagine the grief you are experiencing. I can only hope and pray you have a strong faith to help you through these difficult times.

I have many fond memories of Matthew as a child when we stayed over in Shreveport for football or the nutcracker. He was the youngest but he could always keep up and get a laugh out of everyone. I will continue to keep your family in my prayers during this very difficult time.

He had a sweet and kind way about him. A gentle, genuine soul. He brought a smile to my face many times teasing me for my rough edges and demeanor. It was truly an honor to be part of his life even for a moment. I pray he is resting with peace in his beautiful soul. Condolences to his loved ones.

My heart is heavy with the news of Matt´s passing. I grieve with his family and friends. The third paragraph in the obituary captures the Matt that I remember perfectly-quick-witted, funny, unassuming, smart and endearing. He was one of the good ones. May Matt´s family find comfort in the memories they carry and a peace that passes understanding during this difficult time.
